We have a saying in medicine "one who treats himself, treats a fool". No one should take any medication for such a potentially dangerous disease without medical advice. Many of the antibiotics that could treat E. coli would also kill other intestinal flora and you would have another problem, even if the E. coli were simply normal...they are often found in the intestinal tract. Don't second guess...if you have symptoms...diarrhea, cramps, fever, even vomiting...see your physician.

E. coli can be the causative agent of several intestinal and extra-intestinal infections such as urinary tract infections, meningitis, peritonitis, mastitis, septicemia and gram-negative pneumonia.
Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem. Some of this is due to overuse of antibiotics in humans, but some of it is probably due to the use of antibiotics as growth promoters in food animals.
Please see the webpage for more details on Escherichia coli.
