Probably not. We need to take our time to make sure this turns out the right way. If we try to leave to quickly the whole Iraq liberation would be a failure and we'd have another vietnam.

It took Sadam to keep a lid on that kettle of worms. Iraq was never a country...it was colonialized into one. The Kurds are not of the same ethnic background as the shiites and sunnis. The sunnis and shiites hate each other.
Now factor in that, before colonialization, the sunnis and shiites were sheikdoms...small extended family units ruled by the strongest patriarch. They warred against each other since time immemorial. That is what is going on now. They are reverting to type, and I'm afraid our guys are caught in the middle.
The problems in Iraq are almost genetic. Every intelligent person knew they couldn't mess with it and expect a good result. Then we got a C student for Prez.
It's gonna take a long time to sort this one out.

Probably not. Both parties know that the US in general does not support the war in Iraq any more. We don't want to abandon them, but we don't want to be involved to the levels that we are. Both sides will want to be seen as the side that got us out of Iraq before the 2008 elections. If we are not out, the issue of the election will be whose fault it is that we are still there.

My son just returned from his second tour of duty over there, as did the son of friends of mine, and I hope we're over there as long as necessary to do the job we need to against the terrorists, no matter how hard the democrats are going to try to undermind America's efforts since the mid-term elections. God Bless you.
