For some people it adds to the relatinship, but a lot of relationships are hurt by it to. Fisrst of all both partners need to really want to. Don't do if one partner is just going along. But even whenyoy both are sure, unexpected jealousy issues can arise. If you do thi, be very sure and talk about it for awhile. Talk seriously about it when fully dressed. Talk through it during one on one sex to see how each react. Pick your third with care, someone that you don't have to see regularly if there are issues, also they should be agreeable to stopping if things don't go well.

A lot of people may tell you to go for it. But Dr. Drew on "Love Line" was always adamant about how it is a surefire recipe to ruin a relationship. It changes things in such a way that they can never be the same between you again. He says that if your S.O. is asking for a threesome, it is basically like saying they want to end the relationship.
Then again, if YOU are the one wanting it, you may want to think about if you are really into the relationship or not. Maybe you are bored with it but not really ready to end it yet.
This issue was also addressed on Sex and the City more than once. Samantha's advice: If you want to be in a threesome, be the guest star. (i.e., NOT one of the ones in the relationship.)

While 3somes can be exciting and spice up a relationship, if you need to bring someone into your bed, it's not meant to be. A relationship that is going to last is for 2 people, not more. You have to think of other ways to spice it up. Don't invite others into your relationship. It could cause resentment with you or your partner because either of you might enjoy the other person more than you enjoy eachother. DON'T DO IT!!!

Some couples who have threesomes don't have problems afterwards. Personally, it's not something I could do. Religious and moral issues compiled with myself knowing that I would always wonder if he liked HER better prohibit this from ever happening in my household. He also has said many times that if given the chance to have a threesome he would turn it down because he wouldn't want to do anything to hurt me and he doesn't want anyone but me. It depends on the relationship.

The relationship is over. Once you bring someone else into a relationship meant for two, the closeness and special feelings are gone.

negatively....until you are both extremely liberal and it was both your ideas. The reason is, it may cause jealousy or even distance the both of you if you both don't want it. For example, if one of you is only going along with it to make the other happy, then there's going to be resentment.
