The French first termed it pomme d armour (apple of love). Horticulturally, the tomatio is not only a fruit, but a giant berry. It is known as at vegetable fruit.

Technically, it is a fruit because it has seeds in the inside & taste kind of sweet. However, most people eat it as a vegetable by putting them in salads, sandwiches, cheeseburgers, ect., so it is thought of like a vegetable.
