There is no such thing as having a religious debate on YH answers. The Christians think that the R&S catagory is for them only, and want everyone else to go to ----, while the atheists, and I mean the true atheists don't get much of a chance to debate because of all the morons that have no idea what they believe, and are here for to purpose of showing just how ignorant they are by their incessant bashing. I am an atheist, and would just love a good debate. I think that I would have a better chance in jokes and riddles.

There are bullies on both sides.

This is an open forum and when someone asks a question pertaining to religion that person must accept the fact that answers will include those the questioner probably will find insulting. So, don't ask the question if you don't want the [negative] answers.... all answers, from all sorts of people; believers of various faiths (which may oppose that of the questioner) and of non-believers alike.

I have, to my face, been told, "you've got to believe in something," as if to say believing in something....anything... is a step above being a non-theist; i.e., Atheist.

I suppose most believers, regardless of the faith, would agree. When logically one should realize that an Atheist believes in only one less god than do the Believers.

I truly believe Believers are insulted by my non-belief. I can only suppose that is because there is a tiny part of their conscious which doubts the existence of their own god, and my non-belief in that god is translated by their own selves in the form of skepticism and logic, which is trying to take hold. This causes confusion in their mind, and anxiety as a result, which is expressed as disdain for the Atheist.

As an Atheist I want only one thing: Not to have other's beliefs forced upon me. But, at least here in the United States, where the predominant religion is Christian, the majority will not rest until we cry, "uncle," and let them turn this country into a Theocracy. This insistence is seen in the presumption that "In God We Trust" belongs on our currency, that prayer belongs in schools and sporting events and even many public/government meetings, that many court houses still have the Ten Commandments posted, that some towns totally stop traffic during religious ceremonies broadcasted over loud speakers, that children are being kicked off soccer teams for refusing to recite "The Lord's Prayer" before public school soccer games, and many, many more examples.

If any Believer rutinely felt coerced to profess their DISBELIEF as Atheists feel coerced to at minimum "hide their disbelief" that person would truly understand the contempt non-believers have for religion......any religion.

Hope this clears the air for you. But I suspect this post has already caused you to label me a "Bully."

(I also agree with everything in the post before mine by Old Dragons Guardian---- well said)

Religion debate is when you discuss religion and show each other from the bible why you believe the way you do. They can think about it and so can you. Maybe you or they change their mind. that's a debate.
Religion bashing is when you say this is the way! either you do it or you go to hell and suffer forever and god will hate you and so will i if your not my religion. Because only my religion will save you from the fires of hell. Or God wants me to kill you., You infidel. Maybe they have such a following because people are afraid to say no.

Debate is an open minded discussion where the participants respect one another. Bashing is bigots who are so afraid and insecure about their own position that they have to insult and try to lower the other person as a mean of elevating themselves. Bullies bash because they are ignorant, afraid, and insecure.

I am a Christian and my boyfriend isn't and we debate religion all the time. It's all about pros and cons and done in a mature way. Then you have some people , who are filled with so much hate. Maybe from bad experiences ,. I don't know but all they seem to know is bashing and ridicule. It could be fear also.

Debates are arguments of ideas and issues. Typically the unbeliever sinks down to mere insult knowing full well cannot defeat the ideas. So he has to spend his time impuning and unsulting the believer so that he may be discredited as you would a witness that was offering testimony you didnt want to hear in a courtroom.

Once it turns from stating opinions, to name calling and insults, it no longer a debate. And they get the same following bullies in Jr. High school get. Your either with em, and they leave you alone, or your not and they pick on you. Immaturity brings em all together.

My husband was Jewish and I am a Christian. We often debated our difference of opinion, discussing why we believed the way we believed. But we never fought about it, or tried to change each other. He didn't put me down for being a Christian, nor did I berate him for being Jewish. We teased each other from time to time. But we had both a Menorah and a Christmas tree in our house. We observed both Passover and Easter. He occasionally went to church with me and I to temple with him. We respected each others' right to be who we were and believe what we chose. I only speak in past tense because he passed away. But in spite of all our differences (he was democrat and I'm a republican), our love for each other by far outweighed our differences.

Religious debate: I'll consider your side if you consider mine. We both talk and we both listen. We both make intelligent remarks.

Religious bashing: you suck because you don't believe what I do.

Why bullies bash: if you don't agree with me, you're just wrong. I need to feel that my opinion is validated, so only agree with me or I'll bash you.
