It's there. Just hard to find. Or lost, and can't be found again.
Having gotten older--I have MY foundation built on THE ROCK, which IS Christ.
He is soo awesome!

The foundation of the Church is the fact that
Jesus is the Christ the son of the living God.
To understand the meaning of the words in the Bible( NT),
I believe you have to understand the language it was written in,
Greek! Then you will be able to tell a piece of rock from
the the rock. Peter was sent by God according to the Bible
to the Jewish people and Paul to the gentiles.
All scripture is God breathed and good for doctrine,- - -
see Eph. c2v8-9

"For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which IS Jesus Christ" (I Corinthians 3:11)
Jesus Christ is Himself the foundation of the Church - the Body of Christ. He is alive, and He is the LIFE, and when we become identified with Him through faith in His Death, Burial and Resurrection, we become founded on the Rock - Christ Himself. But I believe the process is described in Matthew 16:13-19, where Peter, under the direct inspiration of God the Father, confesses Jesus as the Messiah - the Christ - the Promised SAvior - with his mouth. This is the Rock upon which Jesus builds His Church - the confession of Jesus as Lord, under the direct inspiration and revelation of the Spirit of God. As it is written: "For if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9)

As the Apostles were martyred, people tried to carry on as they did. But sadly the divine authority given to the Apostles was taken with them, and not passed on to others to take their place. So the Authority to act in God's name was lost.
Without the authority, people began to lose their way, and started to preach opinion. This led to mass confussion to all that believed Christianity. So a council was held that once and for all would decide what it meant to be a Christian. A creed was set up, a Code for people to follow. Yet this code was crafted by men, not by God. So the foundation that Jesus Established was lost.

First of all, Jesus did not establish a religion. Jesus was Jewish. He taught a message that evolved into a religion. His message was that God is love, that the second most important commandment was to love your neighbor as yourself.
It cracks me up to see that there is basically one Bible, yet over 3000 different "religions" that have decided that since their way is the ONLY way, the others are wrong, or bad.
As an ordained minister, I fail to see where in Jesus' message that He states that only the protestant or catholic or Pentecostal or baptist or Jehovah's witness beliefs will get you the keys to heaven.

constantine pretty much caused what had previously been a strong foundation to be made invisible by all those who want to be accepted and so say they are christians. Read your Bible the foundation is still there and build on that foundation one stone at a time being certain each one fits with the others being built up on the true foundation.

You have to look at what side of the cross it was on.Before the cross Jesus followed the "spirit "of the Mosaic Law to the fullest, after the cross all those rules and regulations were done away with(See Collosians 2 all of it).Now we live by the Spirit and walk His way.Paul also explains this in Galatians 4:22-26.

I think you worded that very well. Jesus established a solid foundation of love and tolerance. I did not get the impression that he had intended for only a few select worshippers to find their way back to God.

Disappeared when his followers, the people who followed the instruction of Jesus' students, the 12 apostles - were dispersed after the fall of Jerusalem ~70 AD. That little group of people were called the Ebionites, and their dissappearence ended the direct lineage of Jesus teaching.

Years after Christ's death, His church fell into apostacy and was lost (as had been prophesied). It had to be restored in the latter days, prior to His return to earth. That Church exists today and believes in Christ as the Son of God, in his Atonement, in revelation, in the priesthood, in baptism by immersion, in tithing, temple work, prayer, missionary work, blessing the sick, assisting the poor and the widowed, serving others, worshipping God and Jesus Christ as two separate individuals, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost (a third separate individiual) following baptism, etc. The Church is headed by a Prophet and twelve apostles. The name of it is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which disinguishes it from the Church of the early saints in Christ's day.
