A caesarean section (cesarean section AE), is a form of childbirth in which a surgical incision is made through a mother's abdomen (laparotomy) and uterus (hysterotomy) to deliver one or more fetuses. It is usually performed when a vaginal delivery would lead to medical complications.

A c-section is short for Caesarian, this is when the vet will cut open the stomach near the uterus to remove the puppies. This should only happen if the dog has a history of birthing problems or is having on for the first time ( a problem). Your dog will not get one during pregnancy unless there is a problem with one of the puppies, at all costs the vets will save the mother before the puppies. Chihuahua's and Chih. X will usually only have a problem when the mix is a larger breed of dog. Mosly anything other than another chihuahua. Talk to your vet...

C-sections are normally done when the female is too small through the pelvic area and would not be able to have the pups without problems. Just like women, some can deliver normally and some have to have a C-section. It is better to know in advance than during the process of having the pups. Dogs that should have them and don't could die in puppy birth. They will set the surgery for 3-4 days before the due date of the pups just like they do with humans.
Good luck.

Most (MOST) Chis need c-sections. At least the proper sized ones do (below 6 pounds as the standard describes). Anyway a Cesarean section is the same in a dog as in a person. It's the surgical removal of the babies from the dam. If you have a bad presentation, a puppy gets stuck, or simply is too large to enter the canal, you need a c-section. If you don't get one, the bitc.h will die because the babies will die in her uterus and begin to decompose.

Ok a c_section is another way of delievery and what they do is they cut you right above your pubic hair line and they take EVERYTHING OUT than the baby and then they put EVERYTHING back in, for a person i dont agree with having one unless you need one but for a little dog like yours the reason for me would be cause she might have gotten knocked up by a bigger breed and i have heard these little riddle thingys where if little dogs get knocked up by the bigger breeds when its time to deliver them there inside normall falls out with the pups killing the dog so a c_section would be better to do than to watch all that gruesome stuff than again sweety its just a riddle thingy its fact or fiction. Hope this helps

Common because the pelvis of your dog is too small to push the pups through... Not needed "During" pregnancy, but at the end.

C-section = Cesarean section - the surgical removal of the babies Usually preformed where the ***** is too small to deliver naturally. Has she had pups before? If so, is that what they told you?

It is a surgical procedure to remove the babies. This is often needed in smaller breed dogs as they have a hard time delivering and need vet help in order to help the mom.
