Or did you even remember that it was?
I got wrapped up in the day, it was 75 and sunny. I was outside for most of the day, raking leaves and playing with the baby at the park. I didn't even turn on the TV. Late in the afternoon I remembered that it was. I feel like a shithead for forgetting.
It's so easy to live our easy lives in our safe happy homes and so easy to forget for a moment that there are so many American's fighting and dying overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan right now. I guess we should all take a minute and thank God for what we have.
I was in the Navy for 9 years, I can't believe I forgot it was freaking Veteran's day.

Aww, don't feel so bad you did at least remember right? It sounds like you were playing with your child and doing things that veterans fought so you COULD do them. But what I did was woke up and kissed my husband and told him thank you because he is a veteran. I looked out at the sunny day (bit cold here but sunny) and sent a prayer over seas, praying that God keep the men and women over there now safe. I then did as you did and me and my hubby watched and played and laughed with our blonde haired blue eyes children because WE CAN DAMN IT (lol) What a wonderful thing the vets from the past and today give us eh? The freedom to laugh with our children WHEN WE choose and play WHEN WE choose and teach them of religion WHEN AND HOW WE choose. Then we went and placed beautiful red, white and blue flowers upon my grandfathers grave and I told him thank you also, why? because I can!!! Huggs sweety and don't be so hard on yourself!!! Why be? When you were only enjoying your day and child because you can. You remembered and somehow I think people remember every day, I know I do!!!

FREEDOM!!!!
No war here!
Thank a Veteran maybe not tonight but there are 365 days in a year and a whole lot more vets in hospital beds than that! After 9 years you should be able to forgive yourself then "Carry On" to the mission of thanking a vet!
I spent the day being busy doing things for different branches of the service. But then I do this pretty much all year long between plan and action.
Prayer is powerful and can be done every day as well !!!

I can honestly say that I remembered Veterans Day. Our 11yr old son had a program at school that honored not only our veterans but those serving today as well. I want everyone to know that every time our son sees a soldier he walks right up to him/her , extends his little hand & says thank you. We should all be as honorable. He was raised in a home that respects our military. He was raised knowing that freedom is not free. It comes at a very dear price. Too many adults in this world seem to have forgotten this. When a child knows that we owe our freedom to our soldiers past & present, shouldn't all adults know this too? As a society, we are so busy trying to blame someone else for what is wrong in this world that we forget what is right in it.

My oldest son is in the AF and has been in Baghdad for 6 months. He is suppose to leave for Germany TODAY for his next deployment. Unfortunately, I have no contact with him.
This is a Veteran's Day I will remember.
Thank you for serving 9 years of your life.

My sister and her husband took me out to eat at a Mexican Restaurant. (The irony there is that we're all adamantly anti-illegal, but we do so enjoy most foreigh cuisine.) I live in a Veteran's Hhome because of my disability, which is not service-related, My relatives and I are pretty greateful that at least one State takes care of their Veterans (and their spouses) who are no longer able to take care of themselves entirely.
