Yeah I think most of us depressed people get sick of hearing that stupid line "you're just suffering from depression" but no one will take the time to say which kind or what it may be compounded with. Try lexapro 20mgs per day--and see a PSYCHIATRIST not a clinical social worker CSW. (I just put it all in caps because I feel that I do better with a real doctor ) Also, he may suggest a mood stabilizer such as Lamictal, the two work good together.
Dont be afraid to ask for the much needed help you are entitled to--Remember "Depression can be anger turned inward".

I used to have people ask me what was wrong and I would make stuff up becuase it was all chemical and I didn't have an answer that made sense to them. I don't know...life was great and I still felt terrible. All I can tell you is to keep trying. I was on one medication years ago that had the opposite effect and I stayed depressed and then years later I tried another one that really helped. I think you should talk to your doctor and ask him to switch what you are taking. Keep trying until you find what works for you. It can make such a huge difference. And I guess it depends on how serious your depression is. Mine was bound to lead to the end of my existence. Maybe yours isn't that bad. To steal a quote from someone else (and I cannot remember who), " I felt like if I fell, I wouldn't break." If it isn't that bad, then maybe just finding the right therapist would work for you.
And if your Doctor isn't working for you switch doctors too!
I do know that medication isn't something you should jump into but sometimes, talking just isn't enough. And it doesn't mean you have to take drugs forever. I have been off for 10 years. But I think they saved my life when I did take them.
Good luck

According to the experts depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain of the neurotransmitter serotonin. Dopamine can also have a role in depression as well. Hormonal fluctuations can affect mood as well.
Unfortunately doctors and drug companies mislead many people to believe that there is a magic pill out there for everyone. Sometimes they say that you just have to take a higher dosage or take a combination of pills to get the right effect so that you feel better. In my case I have been trying to find that perfect combination since I was 18. It never happened. At one point I was on seven different medications for depression and anxiety. It was more than my body could even handle. I suffered memory lapses, serious side effects from the medications and ultimately began having Grand Mal seizures.
Some people are lucky. They find the right medication or the right combination of meds for their depression. It usually takes alot of experimentation and you need to make sure you are in the care of a competant psychiatrist who keeps a watchful eye on you and makes sure to follow up with you regularly. Never see a primary care doctor for antidepressants. And there is no such thing as "just having depression"....it is one of the worst things for a person to go through not only because of how it makes you feel but because it seems like there is so little support from those around you as the illness is so misunderstood. The stigma of depression is still as bad as it has ever been. People tend to lack compassion and don't treat it like a real disease.
I have been suffering from depression and OCD since age 5. I also suffer from anxiety disorder as well. The only medication I am on is Xanax as it is the only thing I can tolerate and it just takes the edge off of the anxiety. I have been told by the last psychiatrist that I am "treatment resistant" to SSRI drugs and that nothing is going to work for me. I am resigned to the fact that this is as good as life is going to get for me and that is a hard pill to swallow. I am also still suffering with these Grand Mal seizures which add to my feelings of worthlessness. I cannot drive, work or do other things that most people take for granted.
If you ever want to talk please feel free to answer my post and I will give you my email address. We can talk on IM if you would like....If there's any way I can help you I would like to. I know how hopeless you must feel after going to so many doctors and having them all tell you the same thing but never getting any positive results from your visits. I have experienced the same thing and I know that feeling....
My heart goes out to you.....

I have the same problem. Small things can send me into a spiralling depression for days or more. I totally feel your pain. What kind of doctors are you going to? Maybe you should try a counselor, that worked for me to some extent. Do some reserach online, some counselors will have websites that list their areas of specialty and you could find one who works well with depressed people. Google "LPC in (your city/state)" to find Licenced Professional Counselor or NCC which is a National Certified Counselor.
Good Luck and God Bless!

Change your attitude, Attitude counts a lot. Not what happens to you but how you react to it. Your reaction will make all the difference in your life. Change your perception of things and your attitude will change too, Keep thinking positive. Look at the brighter side of life. You are normal (many are not), you have time to be at the Internet (many don't have even food to eat), You have a roof over your head. (many have no home) Think about it, you are luckier than others. Why be depressed? Appreciate your blessings and forget about yourself and help others instead. Try to focus on other people and help them out in their particular problems. Go out with your peers and be a confidante. Ask them what their problems are and extend your help. This is therapeutic, and self fulfilling.

Depression is not a disease. It happens in most of the people more or less.I know suppose a man loves a woman and he cant see nor talk to her ,and she is her main inspiration --then what happened--depression.like this some one is interested in game but their parents didt allow him/her to play--so there must be depression. So the main cause is to find why we are depressed. If we get the one which is our most loved one then this depression will go.No need of any medicines.People usually did the mistake--by not recognising the cause of the depression. So I must suggest to find the actual cause and provide with the most wanted of life. You will see the difference.

I have also suffered depression in my life,so i know the pangs of it.
Life is not a problem to be solved, it is a mystery to be lived--Osho
So take life not as a problem, then your worries will disappear.
Life is precious, don't waste it looking at the gloomy side of things.
get involved in some kind of emotionally fulfilling work.
do exercises, practise meditation.(Vipassana meditation was useful to me)
Meet like minded people.
Go to a beach once in a while and write your worries in sand.Let the waves take the worries from you.
If it still doesn't work, go to a good psychatrist.
Somehow gain a upper hand over your moods.
good luck! we are with you

There are sturdy ones (such as a quantity that now not conventional this place. A shame, somewhat), beside the point ones (usually human beings who slipped in from a undeniable different class that demands no particular point out) and pretenders (non-academic settee philosophers like myself). certainly maximum every physique who spend too lots time absorbed in concept can get depressed actual. It relies upon very lots on what they occupy their minds with.

I have depression too, but my doctors tell me to make sure that I am exercising in addition to the meds they are giving me. I also go to a counselor who helps me figure out my situations and how to handle them better.
If you are going to a dr. who is just prescribing you meds, you need to go to a different Dr. who will actually help you with your depression and not just medicate you.
