What ever they give you is usually just a saline solution, while sometimes okay, its rarely effective at quick and easy healing.

Rubbing alcohol, peroxide, Bactine, neosporin, Epsom salt soaks, table salt soaks and other harsh chemicals/cleaners are NEVER to be used on a piercing. They are very harsh and can irritate the skin, slow the healing process down and even make it impossible to heal correctly. Never use these products, please.

What you should do is clean the area with a mild antibacterial soap and use sea salt soaks.

Before you clean the piercing, you should wash your hands with warm water and a good soap. Then, while in the shower or whenever use care to get the piercing area wet with warm water. Use a clean and water soaked q-tip to remove any crust from the piercing and throw away the q-tip. Once you are done, lather a mild antibacterial soap on your hands (liquid gold Dial is fine) gently wash the area, again use a q-tip to move soap around the area if need be. Wash the soap off well and pat dry with a clean towel or disposable paper towel(as to not infect the area). Do this twice daily.

Sea salt soaks are good with drying up any excess puss and gently sooths the ears swelling and can reduce keloids as well. Simply get some non iodized natural sea salt (found at most organic stores). Get a cup of WARM water and add salt until it tastes like tears. From here, you may either rest your ear into a cup of the solution or use a few saturated cotton balls to apply the solution on the ear. Do whichever is easier for you. Soak the area for 10-15 minutes and do this 2-3 times a day.

Along with avoiding the cleaning products I listed above, try to not touch and play with the area if you have unclean hands. Do not allow hair and hair products to touch the area too much and try to avoid sleeping on that side as much as possible.

As long as you keep the area clean and do not remove or change the jewelry for at least 6 months, you'll be fine.

Keep in mind cartliage piercings take 6 months on average to heal, but even as long as a year. Be patient.

Cartilidge piercings are pissy in general. Hard to heal, stay sore for a while. It's normal, and ultimately worth it. I know, I considered taking my rook out, but I'm really glad I didn't.

You need to wash it daily when you shower with a very mild, unscented soap. I use satin soap that i get from my piercing place. Don't use anything antibacterial. Something very gentle, like unscented baby wash. If you have a good medical supply store, you could go and ask for satin or provon soap. Both very good for piercings.

Then, at the opposite end of the day from the shower, you need to soak it in salt water. Non iodized sea salts. 1/4 tsp in every cup of water. This loosens the crusties, promotes blood flow to the area, and helps healing. Don't use more salt than recommended, it won't help. The solution is isotonic, which means it has essentially the same chemical makeup as your blood. The soaking is a little tough until you get used to it. You need to find a container that fits nicely over your whole ear, and will form a nice vaccuum. I use the little glad wear 1/2 cup size containers.

You can use vitamin E oil if the piercing is drying out. You shouldn't use alcohol, bactine, or neosporin. Alcohol will dry it out, horribly. Bactine and neosporin are not for puncture wounds, which is exactly what you have.

sea salt and water is a great idea. It doesn't nessissarily have to be seasalt, just non-iodized salts. You're blood and interstitial fluid all contains a certain amount of salt. Using salt water to soak it kinda tricks your body into accepting the piercing as normal/homeostatic. It is important to use the proper ratio (an isotonic solution) otherwise too much salt may promote it to swell up...think like when you eat potato chips...and not enough could dry it out. This website has instructions for mixing some salt water, and some other great tips:

never ever use rubbing alcohol. not even on a dare. it will dry out your piercing.

sea salts are you friend. you can pick up a container of non-idodized (make sure it says that on the label) sea salts at your grocery store for pretty cheap. it should be with the spices. anyway... you'll want to make a soak solution. use a clean cup of some sort (i like to use a coffee mug) and fill it with warm water. you'll want to add enough salts to make it taste like tears. it will take away the soreness and help with healing. you only really need to do this 1-2 times a day for a few minutes each time.

GiggleFairy's answer could desire to ok have been written by making use of myself, I even have had 2 cartilege piercings for 10 years, so some time past that I infrequently keep in mind whilst they have been first accomplished. If I had prevalent then what i be attentive to now, i could have long gone to a piercer and had it accomplished with a needle, yet as that's, I had them the two accomplished with a gun. It took a minimum of a 365 days for them to heal, and that they have got been continually sore till they finally did. I additionally nevertheless dread whilst i bypass to get a haircut with the aid of fact the stylist continually catches them with the comb. yet, there is definitely something to be reported for the piercing, with the aid of fact I even have on no account seen taking them out. As on your 2nd ear lobe piercings, they gained't heal on the comparable value, with the aid of fact one in all them is going to be dealt with extra, no rely what, snoozing on it, etc...the hardness is often merely a ball of pus, not something to stress approximately, merely sparkling it slightly extra and it is going to be effective.

dont use rubbing alcohol because it will dry the skin surrounding the piercing.....if u dont wanna use the stuff the place gives u...then use salt water....its one cup of water with 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt...or u can buy sea salt spray at most piercing parlors. Also Dial soap with a w-tip works good as well.

Usually what the piercing place gives you is good. Also, pharmacies hold a disinfectant for pierced ears that works well.

You could just use warm water and soap, but rinse well after!

i got my cartilage pierced last may at a tattoo shop, you should not use the ear solution that the places at the mall give you. i was told to use soap and water then rinse off with water, also using neo-soprin might help. also do not use rubbing achohol it makes it worse and infected, believe me i tried.
hope that helps. if you have further questions write me an e-mail or such.
