BUT IT'S REALLY BAD.

He'll say something and I'll be like "LOL WHAT?"

Or he'll say some Irish slang and I'll be like "LOL WHAT???"

IT'S RUINING OUR MARRIAGE!

HEY HEY HEY!!! Don't badmouth the Irish and their accents! They are SEXY!! and much better than a Canadian accent (which is just a poor imitation of a Yank accent)!!!!

Edited to say: is he your boyfriend or your husband? make your bleedin' mind up!

An Irish accent...?! Wow, I wish I had an Irish accent. Or, better yet... I wish I had a boyfriend with one... I think that the Irish accent sounds cool and to a degree even sexy.

I had trouble understanding the accent too, but then I did a research project about the Irish society and that required me to interview many Irish people and read a lot of Irish literature. Now, I am not suggesting you should do exaxtly the same, but I would suggest that you read books written by people like Frank McCourt. There is even an audiobook version for each of his works.

As for any relationship, it takes work and often even an extra bit of effort to get to know a person and his or her cultural background. I am telling you this from my own experience, after all I am quite literally the result of a culturally mixed union. Maybe this is a test for you both. Are you willing to go the extra mile? Please let me know what you decide and if I can be of any further assistance/ advise.

Tell him to slow down when he speaks. He'll understand that you're Canadian and you can't keep up. You have the intelligence of a box of hair and at least he only has a stupid accent!

It might be that he's speaking too fast. Tell him that when he talks too fast, you can't understand everything he says. He'll understand. He konws he's got an accent and I'm sure it won't be the first time he's been told this. The Irish get fired up easily and then they talk really quick! It's great.

I have a superb idea. Why don't the both of you take Mandrin or Thai classes together. That way you both learn a new language and therefore communicate more effectively.

Good luck !.

lol. I'm a southern girl- my husband has a thick "yankee" accent. I understand him usually- but sometimes I'm like "WHAT!?" and then he has to repeat himself a few times. You get used to it.
