why do you believe in God, besides the obvious "faith"?

just a general opinion on why you believe in God.

Too many coincidences that can not be explained by science or logic...the only explanation is the supernatural.

The best logical explaination I've heard is that something or someone had to start the universe. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction - ya know, like the conservation of energy. So what started the Big Bang? Did the entire universe just appear from nothing? Unbelievable. Some higher form of matter or being must have created it.

But then, you can drive yourself crazy trying to apply logic to religion. :)

Because my faith in logic, reason and science was mundane, empty and unsatisfying. Science has no conclusions, and emphasizes the need for man to constantly stroke his vanity on discovery after endless discovery... all of which lend "supporting evidence" to a hypothetical truth.

Having faith in God is much more uplifting, spiritually, mentally and emotionally rewarding. God is truth, and I can always count on that without doubt.

If you're satisfied with science, keep at it. Leave God for the believers. He's a truth that sure beats all other truths. If your truth is the best to you, then so be it.

There are a few reasons.Just quickly though.
Answered prayers,that could in no way be coincidence.After LONG study,and all the manuscript evidence of fulfilled prophecies,how could I not?Now unbelievers always try to put the manuscripts at a later date ,saying "Oh, it was written years after the event had taken place"...well if you didn't know better you might agree.Basic study shows that not to be the case.A study of the Old Testament prophecies of the 1rst coming of Jesus,and then seeing them fulfilled in the New can really be a believing point.No one could make all those things happen to himself,even if he wanted to.
The final thing is the way He changed me...period end of sentence except to say it was all Him,no human influence at all.

Good ole' fashion philosophy. I, personally, am not very eloquent in describing the philosophic arguments for the existence of God, but your best bet is Thomas Aquinas's 5 proofs, or, even better (although much more difficult to read) his treatise On Being and Essence. Also try Anselm's Ontological argument for the existence of God.

For me, it has been my life experiences, seeing a beautiful sunset, holding my newborn babies in my arms, only God could create such beauty and wonder. Some other not so great experiences that have convinced me is watching people die. As a nurse, that's a common thing I see. I have watched people die who have stated they believe in God and know they are going to Heaven. Those people almost always die a peaceful death or will start talking to someone we don't see, saying, "I'm coming. I'm ready." They may smile, children laugh, and have said, "Mommy, do you see the angel?" There are lots of experiences like that. On the opposite side. I have seen people die who outwardly have denied Christ. It's scary. They scream, they cry. They say things like, "Get away from me. You will not take me." They fight. Their eyes at the moment of death is pure fear at it's worst. That's why I believe in God.

The alternative to believing in God is to believe that a bunch of nothing organized itself, came alive, turned into a fish eventually, the fish left the water and sprouted legs and/or wings, evolved into monkeys, which evolved into men, and here we are now, children of fish and monkeys, flying to the moon! What a bunch of crap! Things are TOO ORGANIZED to have happened without someone overseeing it all. I have no doubt there is a God.

Tried everything else, nothing else brought the sense of satisfaction, acceptance and peace that Jesus Christ does.
They say it's the easy way out to believe in something greater then yourself, not true, although this is the hardest thing I've ever done, it surely has been the most rewarding.

I don't believe that life would be worth living if we were useless piles of cells and if we were on our own. I believe God created us for a purpose. I believe when we die, we're not really dead and gone. We have an eternity to either be blissfully peaceful or an eternity to relive bad things we've done over and over again.......torture.

That is all I have ever been taught every since I can remember. It is like my very soul identifies with everything the Word of God says in the Bible. You know, the best I can describe it is, it is like the wind. You can feel it, hear it and know that it is but although you can't see it, you know that it is there. May God Bless.
