Rewards Lawbreakers: Amnesty is both a pardon (that removes any penalty for breaking the law) and a reward (by giving the lawbreaker the permanent residency they sought to seal in the first place). And the huge number of amnestied aliens will clamor loudly for their relatives to come here.
Encourages More Illegal Immigration: Amnesties always lead to more illegal immigration, and aliens around the world will sneak into the United States to be part of the next amnesty. We granted amnesty to 3 million illegal workers in 1986, only to see the number of illegal aliens rise to an estimated 11 million in 2000. Amnesty is not a cure for illegal immigration; it is a cause of illegal immigration.
Sparks Massive Litigation: Illegal immigrants and their advocates try to expand each amnesty far beyond its original limits. Litigation from the 1986 amnesty resulted in congressional action last December admitting hundreds of thousands of aliens who didn't qualify for the earlier pardons.

Rather than simply granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, American policy should focus on incentives to illegal workers to return home. They arrived here without our help; they will leave the same way if we don't dangle another amnesty before them. The Fox amnesty proposals should be rejected.

I have mixed opinions on it, actually. Personally, I don't want illegal aliens being granted amnesty.
Maybe those people who are currently waiting for their green cards or something. The people who are not illegal.

If amnesty is given to the 20 million illegal aliens already in this country, then once they are legal, it is a guarantee that they will demand higher wages. When they begin demanding more money, big business will start demanding that the government again turn a blind eye to illegal immigration so that big business can import their slave labor from Mexico. It's a never ending cycle. Amnesty has not worked in the history of this country--it won't work now.
NO AMNESTY. NO GUESTWORKER PROGRAM. SECURE OUR BORDERS NOW!!!!!!

It is definately a bad idea. If we give illegal immigrants amnesty, we will be rewarding them for breaking the law in the first place. If we are going to give them amnesty, we might as well give amnesty to everyone in jail and prison, after all, we can't play favorites, now can we?

Amnesty is probably the most stupid idea yet concieved by politicans. Giving them what they want without punishment is a recipe for disaster.
Make the illegals work for their "right" to be here (make 'em serve in the Military for 8 years, tax em 20% more for 10 years, whatever you can think off) before giving them their "amnesty".
If these illegals refuse military service, extra taxes or whatever conditions that they deserve to comply with for being criminals, then deport their sorry a*sses.

Amnesty for the illegals is far beyond wrong!
I personally do not want to see it happen. The last time it was done, in the 80's, was a huge slap in our faces, and our government wants to do that again to it's own people.
These people broke our laws by entering this country, and now the government wants to award them.. bull

in my opinion, i'm for giving amnesty to here in basic terms: - Entered the US legally (visa, then overstayed) - Been interior the US for a minimum of 7 years - Have filed US earnings taxes (even illegals are required to try this) for a minimum of 5 years - on no account have been given in difficulty with the regulation - instruct that they might help themselves financially - furnish a US citizen sponsor all the others i might prefer to circulate away interior of a undeniable time span, possibly 6 months, and then they may well be prosecuted and then deported.

They need to send these people home. They need to get their own country in order and stop living off of us. Almost all illegal aliens have no insurance medical or car that stuff is costing the rest of us billions. illegal aliens get everything free on our tax money. Ship them back now

Someone can penetrate our borders and then plead for amnesty. what about our citizens who are behind bars for smoking a green leafy substance that grows wild every where except the antarctic? Where is THEIR amnesty? Yeah, I guess I think it's a bad idea.

The ONLY thing Amnesty would accomplish is to have MORE Illegals come here Hoping to be on the NEXT amnesty Band wagon. They allready gave Amnesty Once and said it was a ONE TIME deal. How many One Time deals are they planning on giving? NO AMNESTY

Emphatically..YES!!
It didn't work in 1986 and it won't work now. All it will do is encourage more to enter illegally, knowing they will get amnesty. We have laws on immigration for a reason and they should be enforced, illegals should be deported, no exceptions..NO MERCY!!
