I've put on 20 pounds in a year, and when I told my doctor my concerns, he actually laughed at me (yes, I'm looking for a new doctor) and said that they all cause weight gain (he put me on the last three and lipitor) but all the research i've done doesnt say they cause weight gain (he used zoloft as an example, and on the zoloft website it says it can actually cause weight loss)

so what gives? are the pills really to blame? i know its a nice little cocktail, but I havent found any reason for me to be gaining weight like this. i diet and excercise regularly, why do i keep gaining? (he checked my thyroid and he told me its not an issue, im beginning to doubt him...)

(i recently switched from ativan to klonopin and from lamictal to geodon, so im not on all of the above)

All those meds can cause weight gain...but your probably putting weight on for the same reasons you are taking those meds. Look for another Dr. and even a Dr. for natural remedies as well as psychotherapist considering the types of med you've been prescribed.
also, tests for thyroid only show what is normal for the average person. What is normal for the average person may be slightly abnormal for you...you could have mild dysfunction of the thyroid and adrenal. Check out a website written by a Dr. Rind.

zoloft causes weight gain ive been on it for a year and a half and ive gained at least 50lbs sometimes all the pills mixed together cause different side effects then when they are alone i would recomend getting off some of them or changing them
i know how difficult it is to find a combo that works so you might just have to deal with gaining a little weight

good luck

any antidepressant causes weight gain, it slows your metabolism, no matter what you eat or how much you excersise. I gained 25 pds when I was on Celexa, no matter what I did/ I lost it all when I went off it 2 years ago.

well this isn't really going to answer you
but
I take Zoloft along with lot of other meds for different reasons......i have LOST a lot of weight, and I am not trying to either..I eat what i want
My husband is on Lipitor and other meds..he also has lost weight for no reason, so i guess it can go either way, or you may need another doc, at least for a second opinion

the method used by dr.'s for thyroid is TSH testing and it is sometimes very unreliable also if you have a thyroid problems see a specialist .
I did and he changed my treatment and I lost 80lbs so far. diet and exercise are minimal compared to body chemistry
