Their placement is strategically important. They can mobilize to any confrontation in the eastern hemisphere. It's important for the US to have a large military presence that's across the Atlantic and the Pacific.

They are making it harder and harder for certain countries to let the 9-11 type terrorists hide there.
They are slowly forcing these total whack-o nutjob extremists to retreat farther and farther into the mountains, giving them less and fewer opportunities to terrorize the free world.
My son is one of our soldiers....please don't disrespect them, because the danger they face is VERY real, every day.
Were we supposed to say, "aw, it's ok---Muslims will be Muslims.." and let them do it again??????

The easiest way to answer your question is to simply say there protecting us by Being there. Where ever they are be it Iraq, Japan, or right here at home. There presents lets the world know they are watching over us.

The US fascist government created so many enemies, they must station soldiers around the world to keep everyone intimidated. China has the right idea. They are making deals with continents like Africa-- billions in exchange for resources. Remember, those billions are money the US ferreted out to China when it was believe China could be bought. Now it's a world superpower that threatens what America was trying to achieve.

They're killing people that wish to harm us here in our country. They stand ready to repel an attack. They are so strong that most countries don't even consider attacking us, because they know that if they did they would cease to exist. God Bless our Troops.

If you mean in Iraq, they are not. Bush has involved our military in a mission that only decreases the safety of America and Americans while it unnecessarily drains our forces, and injures and kills American soldiers.
