We wear makeup, color our hair, get our nails done. Vanity? Take it a step further, Botox injections, plastic surgery, expensive wardrobe. Is there a line to stop? Opinions please.

Vanity, as one of the seven deadly sins, is part of church tradition rather than having specific condemnation in the bible.

The bible talks about sins as not loving God first and foremost and not being charitable, so if vanity stands in the way of your relationship to God or your relationship to other humans, then that is a biblical sin.

Incidentally, sometimes the old testament uses the word "Vanity" but the Hebrew translation could also mean "Vapor", talking about things that will pass away quickly rather than trying to point out a sin.

It's a double edged sword. A woman's worth is judged based mostly on her looks. Women with better looks get more successful husbands, more promotions at work and are rated as more likeable by other people. It's no coincidence that women work really hard to look as good as they can, because this can determine the path they take through life. It is not fair, but it is life. Some countries place less emphasis on a woman's looks than others, though, so you can't take America or the U.K. as 'standard' on this.

Ok within reason but most overdo it.

1 Peter 3:3-5

Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,

Vanity is a sin because put simply it focuses on self and is therefore a selfish act which is contrary to God and being selfless like Him.

True vanity is one of the seven deadly sins. But wearing makeup and things like that does'nt mean someone is vain. It is their heart condition that makes them vain if they think to themselves that they are prettier, etc.... and if their life reflects that it's because it is how their heart is.

Wearing make-up and nice clothes is not a sin but in how you do it, that's the question??????? If you do it in a show-off way then that's not nice.... Plastic surgery and all that junk is just a waste of money. If people don't know what to do with their money, give it to me i'll make good use of it........

vanity is stupid, not sinful. we try to make ourselves look 'good' for the sake of others or our esteem needs and think that it's important. we all look crummy at 70 or more, in terms of young beautiful standards. it's what's inside that counts.

"Everything is lawful for me" Paul said,"not everything is edifying though"....
Really,in the Old Testament,it's called the sin of Pride. If you're doing it to look better and feel better,God bless you.If you're doing it because you think you're better than everyone else and want to look down your nose at the rest of us ,well you might have a problem with excess pride. But no one has the right to tell anyone else,"Excuse me sister,I got a word from the Lord that says your lipstick is too red"...Believe me there are plenty of those "OL' BAGS" out there waiting for that chance.
