As I recall

4 years of college (see general requirements*)
4 years of medical school
1 year internship (pediatrics gen med vs surgery)
2+years residency (pediatrics gen med vs surgery +begin sub-specialty** if desired)
2+ years sub-specialty if chosen
11 to 13 years Total

I may sound like a long time but it really isn't in the scope of a lifetime, so don't worry about that. Good Luck and work really really hard.

Here is a site with physician salary survey that looks realistic.

The hours and salary will depend a lot on whether you decide to further specialize, where you live, and how much you want to work, and the organization you work in (ie. Managed Care, Private Practice Group, etc.)

More than that, you need to reeeeally like kids to be a pediatrician. I have three kids, and in their first years I was at the dr.s office ALL the time. There are alot of crying kids, difficult kids, etc. I love love love my kids' dr becuase she is SO patient, understanding, loving. . and so right on; she'd tell me what was going to happen next in the kids' stages of life and she was right. (She was a mom, I know that helped.)

Sorry I didn't answer your question directly, I'm not a dr. But I love my kids' dr!
