We are going to be flying from Hi to Va and I think I will be carrying them on with me but I don't want them to be a distubance to anyone else on the flight. I have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old pug. The 4 yr old I'm not worried about because he will more than likely sleep the whole way but the 2 yr. old is full of energy and can be noisy.

There are a few sedatives that can be given for travel anxiety, the most popular of which is a drug called Acepromazine. It's a general sedative, but varies when it comes to effect. If that's the drug your vet prescribes, you should get enough to have a trial run before the actual flight. There's a very wide dosage scale, and some dogs only need a low dosage while some need the full amount.
Another travel sedative is that works well is Valium (yep, the same stuff we use). It's great because it's cheap and can last a little longer than the Acepromazine. It should also be used in a trial run before the actual travel date.
Since your Pug is young and a ball of energy, it might be a good idea to take him for as long a walk as you can the morning or afternoon before the flight or take him out to a park to run off some energy. It sometimes help to withold food and water the morning of the flight, just in case anyone would get air-sick. The dogs will be fine with a short deprivation and it might help the absorption of the sedatives.

Yes. My vet used to give me sedatives for one of my dogs because he couldn't get into a car without getting carsick all over the place and my other dog would never settle down for long road trips so the vet gave me some. I'm sure you'll have no problem getting some!

Yes, your vet can sell you a sedative for the trip. We did the same thing to transport cats in a car. You'll only get enuf for the trip, but it will be all you need. It's not a big deal to sedate a pet to make them more comfortable for something that could be stressful to them.

You will have to take the dogs to the vet and get a health certificate for them and any shots they need. He will probably give you a sedative if you ask. I have never flown with dogs, or flown period, but I think you can only have one dog with you in the cabin. The other would have to fly in the cargo hold.

Yes. There are two that we administer at the clinic I work at: Acepromazine and Cloicalm.
usually they are given 1 to 2 hours before either a car ride or the beginning of fireworks..whatever event might be stressful to them.
Your doctor may have something specifically for air travel, or he may just give an extra dose of medication for the trip. It won't know them out, just give them enough to take the edge off.

You need to have your dog checked by the vet before you crated him for the flight.
the law states that they have all their current shots. They will give him a seditive. Also give them something to chew on or give them a warm blanket so they can feel safe.

Check with the airline, I don't think you can carry them on with you. I think they have to be crated in the cargo hold. However, your vet should give you a sedative and proper dosage instructions for each dog regardless of the airline requirements.

If he is a reputable veterinarian he should. My vet gives me sedatives for my schnauzers before he cuts their nails. He also advised I could give them each a valium (the lowest mg. )

yes you can get something from your vet to help your dog relax.. and don't forget to get your health certificate to fly most airlines need that so your pet can fly...and don't feed your dog to much before you fly they will get sick after your flight limit there intake before flying water is good but not to much food....

actually most airlines require that pets be sedated to be on board.
you should double check for both.
your dogs will have a much better flight if they are sedated too.
