keep them in until they feel secure in their new home. cats determine home and have been known to leave a new place to go back to their old home. After a week or so, go out with them to make sure there is no danger around. After they establish this as home they should be fine! Good luck!

We always recommended that a new cat or a cat who has moved to a new territory be kept inside for three weeks to a month to make the adjustment to the new home.
In that time you will get to know your new neighborhood better - finding out traffic patterns outside, how neighbors feel about cats coming in their gardens to use as toilets, if there are any aggressive dogs or cats in the area, etc.
You need time to do this reconnoitering before allowing the cat out in the new territory.

Depends on your location. If in a city neighborhood then try the harness, leash until they get to know the perimeters.
We live in the country and just adopted two kittens age 7 and 9 months old. It's coming winter and we want to wait until spring to introduce them to the outside world.
I have decided to put a collar and leash and take them around as to know their property boundaries, then when they are out, I will supervise them. I know they will want to go outside, they are that kind of cats.
Just make sure you have your phone number on the collars.
As far as your cats, if they are custom to being outside then they will let you know when their ready, but do accompanied them for awhile.

ideally not at all until your yard is secure that they cannot get out - or you have built a cat section for them (out of chicken wire and 2x4's works best - with window for access and a door at the end so you can get in if you have to)
check the by-laws in the area.. many cities now have laws requireing license and that cats be kept indoors or on their own property
often angry neighbors kill, steal, or poison unwanted cats who come into thier yards

Outside? Never. They are safer inside. They live longer and are much healthier.
Out of the bathroom (where they stay till the moving is done) - as soon as the door is finally shut and everything's off the truck.

From kitten age.... we always wait around 2 months before we let them out. That way.... they 'know' your scent..and the houses sent, and when they DO finally venture outside, they'll easily be able to find their way back home !

It could get strange diseases, so eventhough it is easier to have indoor/outdoor cats, its mean to your kitty. If you love him/her you will NEVER let them outside.
