We currently have comcast, and to be honest I think their tv package sucks. It costs a fortune, and we don't even get to choose our two incldued premium channels. We're thinking of getting DirectTV instead, but from what I understand, satteltie tv has a bad reuptation for poor reception, having to adjust the dish, service interrupted by weather, etc. What is your opinion.

I've had Directv service for 5 years and only have reception problems maybe 1-2 times a year, usually due to heavy rainfall (live in Seattle, WA). dtv satellite dishes work the best when they have a clear view of the southern/southeastern skyline. in my opinion the picture quality is better than standard cable however they are very similar when it comes to digital broadcasts. the hd lineup is also limited in some areas especially for local hd broadcasts. Also keep in mind that every tv needs a separate dtv receiver in order to get a picture. dtv charges $5 a month leasing fee for additional receivers

I have had satellite for about 8 years now since I live in the sticks where they don't offer cable. Yes, like the person said before me, you do have to pay extra for local channels IF they are available any other way. That does depend on your area. I have never had to reposition the dish...it's not supposed to move. I take that back, after a bad hurricane a few years ago we did have to have it repositioned and the bolts tightened, lol...that was some wind! As for severe weather, yes, sometimes it does go out. Usually not unless it is a heavy downpour or snow though. The quality is usually as good as cable, if not better. We have cable at work and I've noticed some channels with cable are fuzzy and they aren't at my house. You do have to have a pretty clear view of the southern sky for the dish to pick up the satellite signal.
Hope that helps!

Honestly comcast is outrageous in price for pretty much lousy service and poor quality. dish network is ok. i had them for about 3 years. i stopped using them when there customer service became lousy. I currently have dish network with dvr. So far its been good. i lost signal once for about 30 or so minutes. but i survived. sometimes it is just as well to shut off the tv.
persoanl opinion satelite is probably the lessor of all the evils out there.

husbands cousin had dish .. its great pictures till the rain comes then you can give it up, also you have to pay for the local stations (the ones you get free without cable)

i dont know what comcast cost, since my service is through a small local company .. have a dealer come out and talk to you
