I find it really hard trying to wait on a customer while they are on the phone....they seem like no one else is around them....

yes i am a cashier. but if the person is not paying one bit of attention do you know how hard it is to have them pay for their items?

A lot of stores, especially in the malls, are adopting the policy that if you are on a cell phone you will not be served. I think this is a great idea. You may want to ask your manager what your stores specific policy is on this..whether it is acceptable, if you are busy, for you to politely ask this person to step aside so you can take care of the next customer.
It amazes me how many people answer their phones in movie theatres, college lectures, libraries and anywhere else they darned well want to! Whatever happened to good manners?

I think a lot of people do it as a way of showing to all how important they are.
But, unless it's a transaction where you really need the customers attention (and I'm assuming your situation is one of these), it shouldn't be a problem to wait on someone on a cell phone. I used to be a cashier, and I didn't have any trouble selling people milk, eggs, potato chips, etc. without their undivided attention.

I say call security ask them wait somwhere else to wait until they are off the phone to purphase their order. Especially if there is people in line. And if they are taking there time and aren't paying attention to you. That is plane rude, disrescpectful and inconsiderate and just plane stupid.
And for the other reason's I say if they don't realize other's are around in the stores or restaurants just join in the conversation's so that way they know they are being to loud and they know to not talk to loud.

i don't paintings in the service industry, yet i will see the way it may be stressful, to declare the least. whilst i'm in line for something (at Caribou to get a coffee, working example) i will tell whoever is on the different end of the line to hold a minute, and that i will set the telephone down on the counter till i'm getting my coffee, pay for it, and bypass away the line. If i'm in line on the food market, I end the call altogether. it is almost impossible to maintain my eye on my 2 one million/2 365 days previous son who's sitting in the seat of the procuring cart, steer the cart, placed products on the conveyor belt, pay for them, and bypass away collectively as speaking on the telephone. If a telephone call is THAT significant which you'll be able to desire to take it, then end your call outdoors or someplace different than in a line the place you will probable be waited on almost immediately. This makes me particularly indignant whilst i'm at the back of the guy who's on the telephone. they're attempting to hold a telephone verbal substitute, pay the cashier, placed their substitute away, etc. and it takes too long. Very disrespectful for all in contact!

These people only wants to present themselves as someone important. Then again they are showing others they can afford a phone. Some of them do not know how annoying this is.

I don't know why they do that but it is really rude. I have waited in line behind someone who wants to finish up their call before they pay for their groceries or whatever.

put yourself in their shoes..... you're running late and have to go to the store, and you need to make a very important phone call before you get to going wherever you're off to, so you make the call, not knowing this person was going to talk you to death. there's really nothing to say to a cashier anyway we need them only to buy things. not saying i do this because this has happened to me in the pass, but i knew what that person needed, scanned his items, he paid and left. did you want to conversate with this person or something?
