Hypothetical situation - a man, who in his life was a good bloke, i dunno, maybe like a hindu monk etc. Anyway might have committed a couple of sins or something. He dies, and guess what - wakes up in hell (didn't believe in jesus, sorry mate you're f cked).
Anyways, in hell he's under unimaginable torment, he burns alive every second, his flesh searing in the lake of fire etc. etc. etc. He has burnt to a crisp a billion trillion times for every sin he ever commited and this is only the beginning.
He's screaming out for jesus to forgive him and save him, but god ignores him, quoting scripture and saying - you had you're chance mate when I died for you, didn't take it, now you pay the price etc.
Right, story over. Now I'm a bit confused - I read in the bible that Jesus told a story about a man dying at the side of the road. Now in the situation above (which is supposedly happens to all non believers when they die), is god like the pharisee, the levi or the samaritan?

You get a chance to repent on THIS side of the grave...ANYONE and EVERYONE will believe one second after they die and find themselves in hell. And God is like neither of the humans you described....THAT"S why He suffered, bled and died for our sins.

The bible says that there are degrees of punishment in Hell. The degree of punishment will be commensurate with one's sin against the light which one has received.
One good passage that indicates degrees of punishment is Luke12:47:48 "That servant who know his master's will and does not get ready or does not do what his master wants will be BEATEN WITH MANY BLOWS. But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be BEATEN WITH FEW BLOWS. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked." Other verses on this issue include Mat 10:15; 16:27, Revelation 20:12,13; 22:12.
You cannot compare God to a Levi or a samaritan. He is a God of justice and He is always fair.

I know there are not many who will agree with me, but I don't think all will be in Heaven or Hell. See the foundation verse of the Christian faith John 3:16 says that Whoever BELIEVES in Jesus will have everlasting life. That leaves everyone else WITHOUT everlasting life. Thus I think many will simply "Sleep" I think that WHAT You Do with that belief will determine Where you spend eternity. If you believe and choose to work against him...Hell for you , or choose to willfully continue to sin.. Sorry! Choosing to try your hardest to follow him at any and every cost is what is required to enter the kingdom of God or Heaven
But The bible also talks about being thrown into "utter darkness" But No-one I believe will go to either without having made a concious decision to reject God!

Hi,
No. He is not.
You see, God is God......
And so it is within the realm of reason that He would provide everything we need to make heaven.
Becuase he has infact set up the rules to His creation and all,
He also can do what He likes however, this does not include deceit or lying, or preducism etc etc.
He cannot do such things. (Titus1:2)
**so the point is this.......SINCE HE MADE THE GUIDELINES.
GOOD/BAD RESULTS FROM OUR OWN ACTIONS...
HE ALSO MADE THE WAY OF ESCAPE FROM THE LAKE OF FIRE.
THROUGH HIMSELF, GOD-THE SON, ON THE CROSS.
You know the "storyline and all..."
--------------------------------
You see? ANY (g)od that others would choose would infact BE THE PHARISEES. ONLY GOD DIED(AND RAISED FROM THE DEAD ACCORDING TO HIS WILL AND PURPOSE THAT MANKIND MAY CHOOSE! TO RETURN BACK TO HIM AGAIN).
No other (g)od has or could do it. There is no other one for that matter. God bankrupted heaven and gave all to redeem his creation. Our freewill choosing NOW at this point, determines the end result in a manner of speaking.
**I coud go on, and on...that is THE BIBLE DOES IN GREAT DETAIL.
OUR SPIRIT INSIDE BEARS WITNESS TO OUR CREATOR, THAT THERE IS MORE TO US THAN JUST THE SUM OF OUR PARTS. WE ARE INFACT-ETERNAL.
SEEK THE LORD WHILE YOU ARE ABLE. Take care.
-LIVE4TRUTH=]
**P.S.... despite what most say....FEW will make heaven.

Jesus Christ was once addressed as good and His reply was "Why do you call me good? there is none good but One - namely God" Now He said this because the one addressing him addressed Him as "good teacher". The lesson here is that Your idea of good and God's idea of good are as far removed as a mud puddle is from the Sun. You have no conception of the true nature of things because you are in darkness because of your unbelieving and rebellious heart. Look what you are trying to do with your question - condemn God so you can justify yourself. It's really the oldest story in the Book - Eve says "the serpent deceived me" Adam says "the woman You gave me - it's her fault!" THe true picture of Mankind is given in Genesis 6:5,6 "The Lord saw how great was man's wickedness on earth, and how every plan devised by his mind was nothing but evil all the time. And the Lord regretted that He had made man on the earth, and His heart was saddened" I know where of I speak - I was just like you - a damned fool - but no longer - I once was lost but now I'm found, was blind but now I see.

Just to be clear... God doesn't send people to Hell... you make the choice to go there by doing wrong.
And the illustration you used about the good samaritan isn't quite valid.
In the story it is talking about a man that was beatin and robbed by strangers (he didn't die)... he never did anything wrong to them. and then people came by and the people that were supposed to be his friends and of the same religion passed by and didn't help... and to teh surprise of the people listening to the story Jesus told how the person that was supposedly his enemy and not worthy came and helped him.
So God cannot be the levi, pharisee, or samaritan because it doesn't apply to what you are talking about. God is always reaching out to people... it's your choice to resond or walk away.

In the hypothetical situation above, God would be like the Levite or priest from the story of the good Samaritan. The Levites and priests could not touch or go near a dead body because it would make them unclean and then they would not be able to perform their duties. In the situation you wrote about, the man died in sin never accepting Jesus as Lord. As a result, God must turn away from that man because it is impossible for God to look on sin. God desires to be Lord of our lives and treats us as the good Samaritan treated the injured man, but if we never accept his gift of salvation, we will be separated from God forever. The Bible talks of Jesus on the cross and how before he died, he cried out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus, being the son of God, was without sin until he took all the sins of mankind upon himself and died to pay the price for those sins in order that we might be righteous in God's eyes. Jesus had never been separated from the love of God, his father, until that moment. God turned his back to Jesus on the cross because of the sin Jesus took upon himself. That is why he cried out, "Why have you forsaken me?" If we never accept Jesus as Lord knowing that he died for our sins and rose from the dead, then we will be separated from God forever. That means we will go to Hell. When we accept salvation through Jesus, God looks at us and sees that we are covered by the blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus covers our sins. I know it is hard to imagine that a God of Love could turn away from someone. People think that if God really loved them, he would not let them suffer in Hell after they died. However, the truth is that sin will separate us from God and God cannot look upon sin. I am thankful that God loves me and you so much that he let his son die in my place so that I can have forgiveness from sin and so that I can go to be with him after I die.

Once you die, you cannot be saved. I you die in your sins, there is no forgiveness. Your only hope of Salvation is placing your faith in Jesus Christ now, and asking him to forgive you of your sins before it is to late.
If you don't you will spent eternity in hell separated from God forever.

Excellent question. When I told this story I was picturing god the fatehr as the Pharaisee and I was swooping in as the samaritan. I was going to have the Holy Spirit swooping in as the Lebenese (a little comic relief) but PETER cut me off mid-story. Again.
Forgive him 70 times 7 and he still steps on my punchline.
