My husband passed away suddenly on 9-15-06. He complained with having a stomache the night before. I am being told that it will take 3-6 months before a final report will be back. I haven't even been given the peliminary report results yet. So almost two month later and I still don't know why my husband passed. So how long does it normally take to get the results back from an autospy?

Since it was suddenly, and I am assume with no problematic medical history to base his death on, they want to be thorough. They are going to dissect and exam every thing, so they can give you the exact reason, not just a hunch.

When my grandfather passed away, it was expected, as he was sick for 3 years, but the doctors could not tell us from what. A month after his death we got the autopsy report back, and it was ruled that his death was due to a under developed spleen.

Truley sorry for you loss.

honestly it could take a few months after my mom passed it was like 3 or for months before we got hers. IT had alot of things in it that even she didn't know cause she would have told us. I am sorry for your loss. It will get easier with time. And by the way the building a cause against her joke was really bad

generally 6 months, but if circumstances seem unusual it can be much longer. Sometimes you never get a clear answer to your questions. It may just be called heart failure if they can not pin point what happened.

prelims should be available 48-72 hours after the fact. Complete results should be about 6 weeks. They may not be telling you b/c they could be trying to build a case against you. (he he)
