Pit bulls need our love, not our hate. The breed bands dont just effect pit bulls but ALL dogs. the breed band wont stop all dogs from attacking. If pit bulls are banned, then another breed will be in the headline, and when that breed is banned another breed will take its place. Till there are no dogs left. All dogs can bite. All dogs can kill.
Breed bands are not the answer. All dog owners should be responsible no matter the breed.

Your 100% correct in your statement. I have never had a pit bull, but I have had Shepherd mixes, and in some states they are only allowed if you carry extra insurance, for the same fear reasons you stated.

I love my dogs, wouldn't trade them for anything - they are loyal and true, and spoiled rotten too...

I strongly disagree.

That's like saying save the lions. It's the owners irresponsibilites, not the animal.

And to the poster that says they've never seen an aggressive pit bull? What planet are you living on? wow.

I used to have an open mind about pit bulls.. saying oh it's just the owners. Well unfortunately I've now personally experienced 100% negative regarding pit bulls.. and only about 5% negative regarding any other breeds.. and that 5% is like a bee sting vs. an arm being ripped off.

Every time I go to the dog park.. I see a pit bull picking a fight with other dogs.. trying to be top on the totem poll. We don't go to the dog parks anymore because of this fear of our dog becoming the next pit bulls Sunday brunch. It's sad. We see no other dogs having issues at the parks. A few little upsets but nothing like these pit bulls.

Most pit bulls that attack will lock down not let go and thrash about.. by nature - by blood - not because of their owner's training habits. And many have killed. I've met pit bulls on dog walks.. No other dog owners do I see holding their dogs back 20 feet away in hopes that that will calm them down from trying to get to our dog. And not ONE pit bull were we able to walk by without it aggressively advancing towards our dog.

All breeds have specific personalities and temperments. A majority of pit bull owners have them for one reason.. and it's not because they're cute and cuddly. That's the problem. And until you good people outweigh the bad, I think a ban is the only safe thing. At least in the city where I live. Maybe there are cities where the pit bulls are super nice and wonderful dogs. But I haven't seen one of them here.. so I think they should be banned where I live - I'd rather be approached by a wolf than a pit bull!

All dogs can kill. My wife can kill too. But it's not in her blood. If your city bans pit bulls, protest and live somewhere else.

I agree and am very upset about the pit bull ban. It will not solve any so called problems. The people that fight them and make them aggressive need to be punished, not the animal. If raised properly and in a loving home(like my APBT)they pose no threat. People don't care about this ban now but when poodles, labs and the other common dogs start getting a bad rap people will stand up and it may be to late then. PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED!!! To get a really good look at the APBT's temperment and the truth on APBT's watch this short movie in it's entirety: http://gprime.net/flash.php/thepitbullproblem.

Of course not, ANY breed is but a bite away from being banned or restricted.

Staffs, Am staffs, any cross that even looks remotely like a PB, Bull Terriers, Malamutes, Siberians, Frenchies, Bostons, Keeshonden, Pyrs, Boxers, etc etc etc. ALL are on a banned/restricted list somewhere in this country.

Even worse than BSL is the breeder licensing, MSN, pet limits, mandatory microchipping, and stupid DDLs! BSL will not matter in the least if we are not allowed to own any dogs at all!!!

Exactly. Too many ignorant people cannot see the truth, that all dogs can be well-behaved, just as any dog can be aggressive. I love pit bulls as well as dobies, rotties, and every other breed in the world! Our rescue takes in any dog that needs some rehabilitation and we give him a job. Shame on Denver and Albuquerque and any other city that has dared to outlaw these wonderful dogs. Just terrible.

I see questions on here like this alot. Have you ever seen a dog fight? Witnessed the horrible torture animals go through to learn how to fight? Pitbulls are a fighting breed, that's what the majority of people have them for. Yes, they can make excellent house pets if raised right, but unfortunatly that is more of an exception rather than a rule. I feel it's better to ban a breed than continue the torture of innocent animals. Perhaps you could have people file for a license to own pitbulls so they're not so readily available to the public. I don't know. But you've got to think outside of the box and realize that for every pitbull who's a house pet there's probably 10 more who are fighting animals. Sad, but true.

I agree. I myself have NEVER encountered an aggressive Pit Bull.

In fact, the only breeds that I've been bitten by are:
Cairn Terrier, Husky, & Great Pyrenees.

I know!! Just because there have been so many pitbull attacks doesnt mean other dogs dont attack people too. they just focuse theyre attention on pitpulls. then one day when pitbulls are gone, they will focus on another, than another until we have no more left. i saw a myspace bulletine about pitbulls being banned and it made me cry.
