I need some good ideas on some kid friendly ideas for a vacation. My 10 year old is not what I am worried about. I am worried about doing something that my 3 year old would enjoy. We will be driving to our destination...We live in Indiana. So we wont be driving to California. Keep it kinda close.

How about Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA. Would be about a 7-9 hour drive from Indiana so maybe do it as an overnight/ late night drive so the kids sleep most the way.

All previous answers are good. I just wanted to reiterate that both Cedar Point and Kings Island have kid friendly sections. Both also have water parks with subsections for those ages. Obviously you'ld avoid the wave pool but would still have many other options.

If you stay in Cinci, you could visit the Children's Museum. Huge model train display among other things. A 35 minute drive takes you to Dayton's Air and Space museum. There's also a hands on sister museum of Columbus' COSI. And there's Jungle Jim's--a must see for all ages. Very close by is Newport Aquarium.

If you're doing this during the winter, there are indoor water parks in Columbus and Sandusky.

Other options, Wisconsin Dells, Disneyworld, Space Coast (near Cocoa Beach, FL), Washington DC (Smithsonian, Zoo, downtown), Gatlinburg TN (nice family cabins, and has a Ripley's Museum), Pittsburg (old Navy Submarine), Charleston SC (aircraft carrier, submarine, and Queen Mary all close to each other), Ocean City (MD)

Things I've done with my kids include; boating Lake Cumberland, Trainrides in Nelsonville (OH), touring New York City, FL Keys, Miami Beach, Wash DC, Cleveland Museums, Hiking in Hocking Hills (OH), COSI (Columbus), Kings Island, and car and RV camping.

I've done many of these things as a single parent and I'm guessing you're are too so note that all these things (minus the boating) are quite doable.

Finally, as stated already, get the guide to the surrounding states from each one's travel bureau. It lists many things even the natives don't know about.

Well, of course there is always Disney World in Orlando Florida!!! You did not mention if there is a budget? Or if you are going soon or next summer?

the link above is all about disney and where to look for deals but not an actual disney owned site. Like the one above that.

Sandusky Ohio has a new indoor water park at/near Cedar Point

If you are going in the summer, Michigan has beautiful places to rent on the great lakes. Near the Traverse City area there are a lot of things to do

In Kentucky there is Mammoth Cave area, with different things to do

Where ever you decide to go, if you have enough time, you can contact that states travel bureau to have information sent. We did that when we planned a trip out west in a camper we rented.

Have fun on your vacation! :)

hmmm... this is a hard one. You could drive down to Arkansas and go to that diamond park. If fI were three i'd love to dig around in the dirt for diamonds. the best part is if you find something you get to keep it! You could also drive further down to the beach or spend some times in the arkansas mountains. I hear they are beautiful.

Denver is sort of far, but the mountains are BEAUTIFUL. you could all take skiing lessons and your three year old is definitely not too young to learn.

Chicago isn't that far away. if you have a 3 year old girl you could take them to the American Girl store on Michigan Ave... go for a cruise around the lake and go to the museum of science and industry. it is VERY hands on and tons of fun for all ages!!! I don't have a child, so i'm not sure about it, but i'm also guessing that chicago has a tons of kid friendly things in the city for your family to do.

and this is my best idea!!!

If you live in Indiana- you know the playground in your own back yard- Lake Shaffer- Indiana Beach. That's a great - inexpensive place to stay and play with the family in the summer.
