my daughter is getting married next year and wants to have a cocktail reception somewhere really different. it's in september, so we cannot count on the weather to do an outdoor one. she also plans on having the ceremony at the same place. anyone know of something unique and different that isn't outrageously expensive? we would prefer north, northwest, west suburbs of chicago, but chicago would be fine too. thank you.

When I visited Chicago I really was entranced by the Navy Pier and the boat ride they had- something like a dinner cruise. I would think that would be a VERY gorgeous place to have the reception- i think it is about an hour and a half long.

If you're having a larger wedding, then the Art Institute of Chicago (http://artic.cafebonappetit.com/custom.asp?section=social) would be a fantastic place to host a reception!! You'll have to contact someone in sales to find out if they do ceremonies as well.

A fall event at the Nature Museum (http://www.naturemuseum.org) are beautiful!! There are a lot of things to see/do there and the events they can host range in size. Again, you'll have to contact someone in sales to see if they do ceremonies.

There are also a lot of historic homes in Chicago (like the Patrick C. Haley Mansion) which host ceremonies and receptions.

Chicago Botanic Garden has a tent so weather shouldn't be a problem. You can also have a wedding at the museums downtown. Those are the only unique places I can think of right now. Keep in mind that unique usually means higher cost.

All the suggestions are fine, but VERY EXPENSIVE!!!!

I live in Chicago, and there ARE no cheap places. however, I know you said north, NW etc, but if you venture out to WIllow Springs (around Archer & rt83) there is a VERY unique place called Illinois Billard Club. It looks like nothing from the outside, but it is VERY nice inside. THe man Jim Parker and his wife run the place and make excellent food!!! VERY friendly environment and CLASSY. This is NOT a pool hall----it is BIllards. Jim knew Jackie Gleason and used to play pool with HIM!!! My husband and I got engaged there over Sunday brunch. Good luck!!
