I work in a restuarant where we have to cut onions EVERYDAY! And I'll tell you this is what works for us. Fill the sink with COLD water. Cut and peel the onions BENEATH the water. Remove the skins and discard. Then put the peeled onions in a bowl of ice water for about 15 minutes before you slice them.

Place the cutting board with the onion near (not on) a burner. Turn on the burner, the gas will absorb the toxins released by the onion. This should eliminate any tears.

My mom continuously saved our onions in the freezer. Frozen onions can nonetheless be shrink yet they don't reason tears. when you consider that freezing and thawing makes the onion softer than if in no way frozen, that's not a solid concept in case you intend on leaving the onion uncooked, in the event that they freeze rock problematic only enable them to melt a sprint previously reducing,

the best way is the wash the onion under cold water while cutting it because it reduces the intensity of the onion smell, so you don't tear.
Good Luck with cutting, and hope the advice helped

Onions release toxic sulfuric acid when you cut them dry. Sulfuric acid was used in gas chambers to execute the death sentenced a few years ago in america. It was labled cruel and inhumane. Onions release a more mild version. It still bothers your eyes. Cut your onions under running water. hope this helps, ~b~

stick your head in the freezer-really the cold helps them feel better.I worked at a wendys and would take the onions in the walk in freezer to cut. I've also heard to wet your blade. The onion juice has a reaction to the metal of the blade so I dont see anyway to stop it-just treat it
