Pinenuts grow in the cones of a pinon pine. When the cones ripen, which is in the fall, the cones turn up side down and the ripened nuts, which are in a shell fall on the ground.

they are the nuts found on pine trees.I believe in the pine cone to be exact. they are used a lot in Italian cooking and more specifically in Pesto sauce. You can find them in health stores and in ethnic stores
