We draw names for Christmas, and this year I picked my nine year old cousin. She lives far away, and I only see her once a year, so I'm not really sure what to get her...

Any ideas?

I teach 9 year olds, and last year after Christmas it was all I could do to convince the girls that they didn't need to bring their sparkly purses to PE and that they didn't need to put on their bright orange and bright pink lip gloss for lunch. Those both seemed to be really popular gift items. :)

I've heard of an Amigo phone in which there are 3 or 4 buttons that connect to important numbers (911, mom, dad, grandma, etc). It's parent friendly but still let's the child feel sophisticated because they have a phone. If that's something you're interested in getting her, talk with her parents and see if that's even an option. She'll think you're THE coolest cousin if you did something huge like that.

Any of the KidzBop CDs are popular with 9 year olds, and most Disney Afternoon shows are really in. If you got her something from That's So Raven or Hannah Montana or Zoe 101 she'd dig that.

If you're young yourself, like a teenager(I have no clue), pretty much anything you get her will seem cool. You are, after all, the epitome of cool. Have fun!

If she is gurly then get her make up.when I was nine I was always excited to get make up or purses. but if she's kinda tom boyish probably a sports bag or a game Apples to Apples is the best game for 9 year old boys and girls.depends on how much money you wanna spend maybe..some of those moon shoes! anything like that she would love

Most 9 year old girls like anything from Limited, Too. There is also an American Girl book that is out for girls her age called "The Care & Keeping of You" for about $10.00. You can order it from Americangirl.com. My daughter got this book for her birthday, and it is really neat and something she & her mom can read together about changes she will soon be going through.

You could get her a bulletin board for her room to hang notes, photos, etc. You could get her Bratz dolls for her. Or maybe a beaded or sparkly purse with lotion, lip gloss, perfume, inside of it. Another idea is a diary or journal, or maybe some jewelry.

get her the newest toy lightsaber, board game, or maybe even an action figure with karate chop action! LOL!

j/k, get her a barbie or some other girl toy. find out what she likes from last year, and maybe that'll give you some idea.

it's not easy to get into the mind of someone you don't know well and come up with that 'perfect gift'. i'd suggest talking to her on the phone if that wouldn't be too awkward and finding out a bit about her likes and dislikes: tv shows, favorite music, clothing tastes, movies she might enjoy.

cousin smellyfoot is certainly clever enough to carefully weave her questions in the form of a conversation, and find something for a gift that will make your cousin think of you when she opens it and enjoys it later. more than likely she'll think back to your conversation and say to herself, "she sure was sharp to find out what i wanted to get for christmas. hope i grow up to be just as clever as her!"

(you could always get her a hippopotamus for christmas...)
