Kicker competition series, or JBL

That is the problem with asking an opinion question on here. You now have six different answers. There really is no right answer to this. It is all a matter of opinion. The best thing to do is go to a local stereo shop(not best buy, circuit city) and listen to a number of different sub and amp combinations. No doubt that you listed some of the top sub manufacturers, but there may be something else out there that sounds good to you that isn't listed. Don't let the salesman talk you into something that you don't like. The biggest thing to remember with car audio, "You get what you pay for." I personally have one JL 10W6V2 in my car. I will never go with another brand of sub.

JL Audio are going to be the best subs, tightest, deepest bass, but you get what you pay for. A good alternative is Alpine, their Type R's are good drivers.

For a good amp on the cheap I would go MTX. But JL's "/" (Slash) series amps are great.

If used correctly MTX subs and amps are the best on the market, check the record if you doubt it. But ultimately you get what you pay for, all the brands you mentioned are reputable manufacturers, but only one holds the most records for car audio competitions.

the best bang for your buck will easily be the alpine type-r subs. as far as the high end expensive stuff goes, i would say hifonics is the best up on your list. mtx is not bad, and as far as spl goes, jl only makes one decent sub line for that, the w7 line. i would rule out audiobahn for subs and amps altogether. for amps, i think (as far as that list goes) hifonics would give you the best for your money.

Well, it's really going to depend on the enclosure for bass.

As far as brand names, pick what you like. Go to a pro audio shop and grab a listen.

Here is some info on enclosures (and other tips):
