THIS IS REALLY A GOOD SIGN, THE CHILD COULD POSSIBLY BE INTERESTED IN HOW THINGS WORKS AND MAY END UP BEING A MECHANICAL ENGINEER OR ELECTRICAL. AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOU SMALL EVERYTHING BIG EXCITES YOU . I WOULD NOT WORRY TO MUCH HE MAYBE INTERESTED IN SPORTS CAR DRIVING. HE WILL GROW UP AND LOOK AT GIRLS MORE THEN CARS ANYWAY.

I agree with those who say stop buying him a car or truck whenever he asks, and curb his TV time. Having said that, however, an interest like your son's shouldn't be squashed. If you have a yard, make a "mud place" for him to play with his cars and trucks (don't cringe...dirt -does- wash off!). If there's any construction going on in the area, take him to watch it (from a safe distance) for a while. Tractor pulls, truck rodeos, and car shows are another idea, and are fun for the whole family. Whatever you do, let your son know that his interest is a good one...and could make a good living some day, should he choose to become a mechanic or trucker!

My brother was the same way, as was my fiance's younger brother. His brother even has around 300 matchbox cars, many of which are worth money now! You could use this as a learning experience--buy him some of the collectible kind of cars off of the internet and tell him that these are special cars that have to stay in their packages. This will teach him that some types of things have more value than others. (My mom did this with collectible Barbies for me.)
Also, you can use this to help him learn. Read him books about cars, as reading to your kids helps them learn to read. Use his cars to help him learn to add and subtract. (If I have two trucks and one drives away, how many trucks are left?)
When he gets a little older (5 at the youngest), you can take him to car shows and, if it interests you, Nascar races. This will show him the history of cars and cars in action, as well as provide a learning experience about how to be a responsible car owner and driver--it's never too early to start that lesson, trust me! Also, when he gets a little older, you can start him on model cars. There are basic ones that don't require any glue or paint, so he won't make a mess.

Don't worry, he's doing what boys do. My son was the same with trains. He's now nearly 9, and doesn't care for them much any more! We did indulge him a bit. Every single day I took him to watch the train come in. The drivers got to know us so well that they actually took him on little rides when they were shunting, kept booklets for him and always tooted when they saw us. I was actually a bit sad the first time i heard the train come and my son didn't ask to go and see it! Don't spend too much money though. You'll end up broke and he'll most likely end up with a heap of toys that wont see the light of day in a few years.

well he is a boy. It may be he has a natural tendency towards automotive things. Maybe he will grow up to be a mechanic, a race car driver, a truck driver, or a car designer. My husband was fixated on trains when he was a kid, now he is a locomotive engineer and he loves it.
200 cars is a lot already. Give some away to the poor kids

Ok, I am wondering how obsessed he is. Does he name the make and model of all the cars and trucks he sees on the road? or Is he obsessed with the wheels? It is ok for a child to like cars and trucks. But, I do agree with the others, he needs to find some other interests besides them. If you answered yes to one of my questions, I would consider getting him evaluated by a specialist. Mention it to his doctor and he should point you in the right direction.

This is pretty normal for young children, stop buying him toys and let him watch only limited TV amounts. Spread his intrests by giving him things other then cars and trucks as gifts.

Sit down with him while he's playing with the cars and trucks and turn it into a counting game. Don't buy anymore (at least till he can count to 200).

Boys like cars and trucks. I don't think it's an obsession. Let him be little! He will grow up way to fast if you don't. He will probably play with them for the rest of his life anyway. My husband does.........
Let him decide for him self what he wants to do when he gets older.

I think that it's great that he loves cars. I have 3 sons and my middle son is also into cars but he also likes action toys. Like Superman, batman etc.
It is better that your son likes cars and trucks then him loving to play with dolls or makeup. My nephew loves dolls and he likes too dress up in girls clothes. He is 5 and we are all worried about him. I think that he will have issues when he grows up... I will love him no matter what...
