Put dogs on the coolest part of the grill (outside edge of the coals). Also, move the grate of the grill all the way up to avoid burned black spots. You don't have to split them, but you might want to poke a couple of holes with a fork so that they don't explode and get that fan-tailed look to them. Only cook them long enough for them to plump and be warm...this keeps all the juices in. Hope this helps!

I don't think you should split them open. I like them juicy and flavorful. If they split all the juice runs out of them.
If you're grilling on an open fire, cook over the coals not the flame. Hold the dogs about 5" from the hot coals (they should be glowing orange).
If you're grilling on a bbq grill, adjust your wire rack so it's about 5" from the charcoal.

you don't have to split hot dogs. This is a pretty involved question just for hot dogs. If you like the way they look split than split them. I just throw them on the grill and cook them till the outside is golden.

When I grill hot dogs sometimes they split on there own & some times they don't. I grill them over direct flame on medium low.

It's up to you. Some manufacturers put too much in the intestinal skin and the heat makes the ingredients expand causing it to split open. On Ballpark, I've never had to split them because they obviously created their dogs with the expansion in mind.

Use a fork to poke in 3 or 4 holes on one side.
I grill mine over kitchen gas stove top in the flame, with exhaust turned on. Takes 15 sec each on two sides. I have it on a bbq fork.

Low fire, grill a long time to add smokey flavor. Basically keep them away from direct flame, and away from hot coals, works great. Do not forget the mustard.

make little slits, if they split then they've been on for too long, try to get them just before the are about to split thats when they are the plumpest
