An old couple were sitting on the porch one afternoon rocking in their rocking chairs. All the sudden the old man reaches over and slaps his wife.
She says, "Well what was that for?"
He says, "Thats for 40 years of rotten sex!"
She doesn't reply and they start rocking again.
All the sudden the old lady reaches up and slaps her husband.
He says, "Well what was that for?"
She says, "That's for knowing the difference!

1) They had been married for 40 years,
2) he either wasn't a virgin when he got married to her or cheated on her when he was married to her,
and
3) the sex he had with the person(s) other than her was good. So he had something to compare the sex he had with her against.

I'm also not sure, but maybe it's because he was cheating on her and getting sex from someone else that was good. So he knows the difference between good and bad sex now and knows that hers was rotton.
