I'd say have the ends trimmed every few months. The only time you need frequent hair cuts in when you are maintaining a super short style. Howver, the occasional cut it good for long hair. Cutting it helps it grow faster, gets rid of split ends, and makes your hair less likely to tangle. I'd say every three to six months. When I was growing mine out i didnt not cut it at all for a eyar and a half, and it ended up with a lot of split ends that made my hair tangle all the time. I would also recomend investing in a good brush or two, and using conditioner on your hair. A good brush makes all the difference, i like the hard bristle ones because they dont make your hair all staticy.

6-8 weeks, if you just leave it too long between trims you will get frizzy splits at the end and they will end up having to cut too much off next time you go. If you get it done every 8 weeks they will only need to take a tiny tiny but of the ends.
