I have a 9 month old Dobermen mix and she is still peeing in the house once in while. Now she is in heat and will pee if my Husband doesnt pay attention to her, I thought Dog's where potty trained by six months. Is she doing it for attention? She has been pinned up in the kitchen since she came into heat. She goes outside every hour on the dot and she will still Pee! :( I'm sick of cleaning up Dog Pee. She has never popped in the house, not once! Is she just being a brat?!

She has had a Track infection when I first got her and she was taken to the Vet and got treatment for her. I have raised Dogs in the past, but never a Female. If she sees my Husband come home she pee's. If she gets exicted, she pee's. If she gets jealous, she pees! I have taken her back to the Vet and he said she will grow out of it. I have re-trained her, but she still does it! And Im not paying for Dog traning and I AM NOT BEATING MY DOG! I dont think she can help it. Shes just happy. But there has to be something I can do to stop the Happy Peeing!

She was crate trained and she would always pee in the crate. My hubby thinks that it is in-human to keep a Dog that big in a crate all day.

CANT SOMEONE COME UP WITH A REAL ANSWER! She is locked up in the kitchen 24 hours a day. She gets treats for her good behavior and for going potty outside.

Many possibilities

1) - If she gets scolded (yelled at or face rubbed in it) it is likely she will pee in the house - many times hiding it.

2) - She could have a UTI - some sort of urinary infection. A pill for a while will usually cure that one. Ours had that and I was going nutty trying to figure out why the crate training was all of a sudden not working ... usually it will be a piddle here piddle there.

3) - If she just pees every hour, I would HIGHLY suggest crate training. It's not evil, it's actually very well accepted and the dog likes it if introduced properly.

4) Also, between ages 6 and 10 they can go through the teenage rebelious stages. Ours actually did piss on the floor a few times during this time. She also tried getting away with many other things. Just have to hold strong to your word and not treat her like a poor wittle pupppyrooo. :) Say "aaaaghhhht"! once just to startle her. And nicely grab her - take her outside potty the rest of the way.. have somebody clean up inside while you're outside so she doesn't see you cleaning up her mess. (super important) Then put her in her crate for a couple hours and then let her out to potty. yada yada yada.

Solutions? Depends on the real problem. But I would:
1) never let her see you clean up her pee.
2) never use ammonia to clean (the dog will just piss wherever the ammonia is) Use vinegar/alcohol/water mixture.
3) crate train her.
4) train her to ring a bell when she has to pee. (hang a bell in the kitchen or wherever she exits to go potty - right before you take her out to go potty, ring it) eventually she will understand ringing the bell gets her access to outside potty area. If she ever rings it but doesn't go potty, put her in the crate for five minutes as a time-out. Give her a cookie and be nice for going in the crate, just don't yell and scream at her :)

Also, gotta realize this is going to be more difficult to solve now that the problem exists.. be patient :)

If you need any assistance on any of this, please do email me. I'd love to help. thehamburgs@hotmail.com

Don't worry I have had this same problem and overcome it. You need to designate a small room in your house to be hers. Dogs understand ownership. Place paper over the whole area. Once she potties replace the soiled paper with fresh. She may do this in different areas of the paper a few times but she will eventually go in one spot. When she picks a favorite spot take all the paper up except for that spot. Now you must praise her every time she goes in this area. After she has mastered potting only on the paper in her room you can slowly open up her area. Gradually move the paper to the outside of the house. If, during this she starts to revert back to going on the carpet, you may have to only move the paper an inch a day. This whole process should take about 16 days. Good luck :)

When she is trained properly. This isn't so much a dog problem as it is a people problem. YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND MUST BE CONSISTENT!

The first step is to become your dog's pack leader while simultaneously crate training the dog.

You can read and/or listen to a Podcast on being your dog's pack leader at http://www.leerburg.com.

Also, as others have stated, it's rather irresponsible of you to not have your animal spayed. You should definately look into having your pet fixed at the completion of her heat cycle.

dog's will pee in the house when they are in heat but i think she is doing it to much by the sounds of it, my dog is 2 and if i don't let her out when she asks then she will pee but then it's my fault for ignoring her.
She also could be doing it for attention.

Try this type of training NILIF

also if you have stopped crate training go back to it again, do what you did at the beggining of training it worked at one time right!

You might actually want to take her to the vet to be checked it might actually be a medical thing.

um... well YOU have to do something about it to. you have to poty train her they just dont potty train themselves. but make sure you odnt scream at her when she does an accident. grab her and carry her where she did her accident put her nose int o her pee and tell her "no pee pee, no pee pee, bad girl no pee pee" then just grab a newsaper or papers nad just do a little slam on her nose then take her outside and tell her"pee pee here(pointing to the ground) pee pee here" keep doing that. and remeber why you got the dog and how hapy the dog makes you. just dont scream at her or hit her with your hand or else shell still be having attitudes to like pay you back why you screamed at her

My poor dog never quite grew out of the peeing in the house habit. Check out some books on disciplining puppies.

You are going to have to reinforce the potty outside training with your dog. Try using a reward method (clicker training is a good one for this) for when she does go outside as she is supposed to and hopefully you'll have some good results.

If every time she pees your husband starts to notice her then he's unknowingly reinforcing that behavior. By paying attention to her it's telling her that if she pees, she gets noticed. Next time she starts doing that, ignore her and simply clean it up. It won't stop right away but I guarantee that if your husband pays lots of attention to her at other times then she will realize she doesn't have to pee to get noticed!

If he is 9 mo. old and has not stopped yet there is a problem and it is harder now because he has been doing it so long. Let him out every time you think he is getting ready to pee. and good luck.
