Should I take him to the vet, or will he be okay? Nothing appears to be broken, but he's 'favoring' that paw and not using it. This just happened about half-an-hour ago. At first he ran and hid from me, but he seems to understand now that it was an accident. Is there anything I can do for him? -RKO-

I think you should just watch it. Most likely no permanent or serious injury occurred. You can have a vet look at it on Monday if he is still having trouble with it. If it were broken he would not be able to put any weight on it. A break would need veterinary attention this weekend.

I wish all people with pets would just keep a $20 bottle of Rescue Remedy in their homes for just such a situation. It would help him with trauma, pain, or shock from the injury. Accidents do happen and never when the vet is opened. You can use the RR on the way to the vet and it will help the cat.

Cats are very forgiving and they do have to learn to keep out of the way of our large feet.

Well accidents happen so don't cut yourself up about it. Chances are it's a bit sore and bruised. It should settle down by itself, but if he's still limping tomorrow, get it checked at the vet ASAP. I wouldn't bother trying to take the heat out of it, you'll probably just end up stressing him out. Just leave it and see what tomorrow brings.

See if he will let you hold him with an ice pack on that paw. Animals need to treat injuries pretty much like humans. Icing it will help with any pain and swelling. If he likes being held or just sitting in your lap or beside you will help rest it.
Call your vet tomorrow if he still seems to be favoring it.

Give it an hour or two before you run to the vets. I'm sure he is fine, but sore. If someone bigger than you, stepped on your foot, you would limp too for a while. Heat is circulation, circulation is good.
