Cesara Philippi was a member of Greek philosophy, Roman logic, and Jewish traditional religion. Jesus set Himself against the back drop of the world's great religious and philisophical systems asking, "Who do the people say that I am?" After they answered, "John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah?" He asks, "Who do you say I am?" Jesus longed to deepen their faith. He desired to draw out a messianic confession. Peter instantly responds, "You are Christ, the Son of the Living God." This thought could only be inspired by the Holy Spirit. Jesus affirms Peters faith by declaring, "Thou art Petros (a moveable stone) but upon this rock (this immoveable foundation--that I am the Christ.) I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it." The church is built upon Jesus Christ. He is the cornerstone rejected by the builders. (1 Peter 2:4-8). Peter clearly understood the rock was Jesus. Paul clarifies the issue in 1 Cor. 10:4 by proclaiming "That rock was Christ." David declares, "Truly my soul waiteth upon God, from Him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and salvation (Psa. 62:1,2) There is no other foundation.(1 Cor. 3:11)except Jesus. The gates of hell will never triumph over His church. Peter denied his Lord three times. He attempted to keep Jesus from going to Jerusalem. The courageous disciple misunderstood Jesus' mission. Jesus said, "Get thee behind me Satan" (meaning that Satan was influencing him). No, the church was not built upon Peter's weakness, but upon Jesus' strengths. Peter discovered the truth for himself. Jesus became the source of his strength, the center of his life and the foundations upon which he stood.

So, as you see Peter was not the first pope. The scriptures that were supposed to back that theory up and is only a theory, were either mistranslated or just plain misunderstood. Many people DO translate scripture do back up their own beliefs with out thoroughly studying them and also do take them out of context. Scripture is best studied from all points of view not just one.

Yes he was the first Pope. Whats' with these people when they talk about a Pope who was obviously a Holy Apostle well, all of a sudden they say he wasn't the Pope when he held the position of authority for the Church and he passed it down after him. Even when a problem came up in the Church when the Apostle John was still alive he referred them to the Bishop of Rome for the solution. It is just like when God ordained Moses to lead his people and then Joshua after him and so on through the ages. God would not leave us orphans without someone who he could give direction to.

No, absolutely not. The first pope did not come along til about 600. The first church split was in 251. The bishop of Rome (largest group of churches) was not considered as the head bishop til around 300. Peter died in the late 60's. Peter did not have anything to do with the catholic church, or anything close to it.

Actually the belief that Peter was a pope at all doesn't fit with scripture.

In Matthew 16:18 it is Peter's confessions of faith that Christ says he will build his rock upon, not upon Peter himself. A study of the greek word "petra", and the aramaic word "petros", and a study of the original greek, makes this quite clear.

Hope this helps :)

no. the first pope lived in rome and I believe it was constantine.
Pope is a title of the Catholic Religion. The catholic church was started 300 to 400 years after Christ's Death.
Peter was a Prophet and Apostle.
Peter was the Apostle who was left in charge of the Church of Jesus Christ after the Savior's Resurection. After his Death Peter was succeded by the next most senior apostle.
after the deaths of all the apostles John who was exiled on the isle of patmos was the last prophet and apostle on earth when he disapeared from history the Authority and the True Church went with him.

Peter the saint IS the most popular of the blessed Pope's .
This is an inner sanctum story that is presently true, nearly
infinite, and addressed to Heaven. Peter was thought to be
the first son of the most future places in all the heaven's stars.
This was because of HIS exceptional wisdom, the proposed
educated area that the Popes traditionally pray to have in them.
May this blessing be useful, it is usefulness that Peter rides the
heavens in the chariots of the angels of God.

Yes.

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:17-19)

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.

With love in Christ.

Umm; he was Jewish, honey.
Catholicism & popes are nothing more than manmade religion.
Peter never converted, as Catholicism didn't exist then.
So, logically...the Catholic church has fusterclucked everything up, & you're buying into a religious deception.
