i do not think that the government should have any say in it.
they should act as a records keeping body and that is it.
they get their 35 bucks for the marriage liscense and after that they keep it on file for future records. other than that it should be the decision of each individual church, and legaly ordained minister to decide whom their religion will allow them to marry.
I am an ordained minister. it should be my choice if i wish to preform a marriage or handfasting ritual for same sex couples then it should be my religious freedom to do so. and the government should have to recognise it as legal.
the violation of my religious freedom is nothing in contrast to the violation to the couple's right to life liberty and the persuit of happiness.
besides they have jsut as much right to loose half of their s**t as the rest of us.

They should be taxed anyway. I will never understand how the Catholic church, with all it's money and land, can be tax exempt. But I don't think forcing the church to do anything by the government is a good idea either. You run the risk of setting a bad precedent, because then the churches will demand to be allowed to make legislation. No church in government!

Religion that only accepts gay marriage is a religion that goes TOTALLY against the bible that they will have to preach from. The bible states at Leviticus 18:22-"And you must not lie down with a male the same as you lie down with a woman. It is a detestable thing." Leviticus 20:13 states:"and when a man lies down with a male the same as one lies down with a woman, both of them have done a detestable thing. They should be put to death without fail. Their own blood is upon them." The bible even makes this statement:"No garb of an able bodied man should be put upon a woman, neither should an able bodied man wear the mantle (clothing) of a woman; for anybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah your God." Has God's views changed? Has he changed? No! The bible states at Numbers 23:19-"God is not a man that he should tell lies." The government has to respect all religious practices? Why not respect the BIBLE where religion comes from?

The goverment shouldn't be involved in religion, and religion shouldn't be involved in government.
If the government will acknowledge same-sex marriage and confur upon it the full benefits of heterosexual marriage, there are already churches that will perform the religious ritual part, and there's NO need to force those who do not wish to perform those ceremonies to do so. Nor will it happen; and if the government tried to do so, the ACLU would be all over it.
Please cite sources for your assertion that it was the government that "forced the Mormons to accept minorities as clergy".
The LDS church doesn't say that's what happened. THEY say it was revelation from God:

No church should be required to accept gay marriage, but no church should be allowed to force their "morals" on people who do not belong to their church. What two consenting people do in their own home is their own business, and I see no problem with the government recognizing them any different, anyway (note: religious groups have even tried to stop gays from seeing their partners in intensive care in hospitals while married couples could see their spouses).
I personally believe there should be no tax exempt status for churches. They receive city services and should have to pay for their services like everyone else.

I think that religion should not make a person exempt from the laws of the land. That means, if gay marriage is legalized, they should be forced to accept it just like everything else in life.

I am LDS (mormon)...I am not sure what you are talking about the government forcing the mormons to do - the only thing I know of is forcing the early pioneers to move from state to state.
The government doesn't have the control - the Lord does. If he wants something one way, that's how it will be.
We are taught to love everyone, even our enemies and those we do not agree are making righteous choices.

I think the church should have the Hell taxed out of 'em here on earth, so they don't take any to heaven with 'em when they die! And as for hating people, if I hated everyone that wasn't like me I wouldn't have any friends at all. LOL

You hit on the final objective of gay marriage. Destroy the churches. Anyone that doesn't perform these marriages will be taxed and banned. Already happened to the Boy Scouts.
