Cats have been happily lapping up cream for thousands of years. Some cats, like some people, are lactose intolerant and not all are.

Unfortunately you can't know if a very young kitten is or not and many people will give cow's milk to a rescued kitten without knowing that some will get a diarrhea that can be fatal to a young kitten.

I have a cat who likes to lap the milk from the bottom of my cereal bowl. Most of my cats don't want it ever. After a cat is weaned cow's milk really doesn't have any nutritional value for them. Humans are the only species of mammal that likes are gets benefit from milk when they are grown.

Its not that its not good for them, its just that sometimes cats stomachs don't tolerate whats in the milk that causes the problem. Some cats get terrible diarrhea from it. You can buy a product called Cat Sip that is OK for cats and doesn't cause tummy troubles.

Most, but maybe not all, adult cats are lactose-intolerant, but with our four cats we get around that risk while still accomodating their love of milk by offering them kefir - cultured milk. All our cats absolutely love the kefir curds (what gathers in the strainer when the kefir is strained) but it has been especially good for one of our cats, the one that has the most sensitive system and had constant diarrhea problems until we started him on the kefir curds. Since he started getting the kefir - two or three times a week - he's had no further problems with his digestive system.

many cats are lactose intolerant, and milk will make them sick. But this is not true for all cats... and it isn't deadly or anything, but it could give them the runs really bad. Try giving milk to your cat and if she gets gas or diahrea you could always get special milk at Walmart or the pet store, it's made just for cats.

yes, especially in large amounts. But it varies from cat to cat. I've known people who fed their cats milk regularly and it didn't seem to affect them. I sometimes let my cats drink a bit of milk, and it doesn't bother them. On the other hand, too much milk will make some cats sick.

It is true, they are lactose intolerant and can get diarrhea. Petstores sell a product called Catsip, which is a lactose free milk treat for cats.
