That's a tough question. I like so many different artists. I guess I'd have to say Salvadore Dali's Soft Watches. The first answerer also picked a good one. Mchaelangelo's mural on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel ranks right up there too.

It's a challenge to pick "just one", but fortunately some of my favourites have already been mentioned, so I've chosen to answer your question by choosing "Sunrise" by Claude Monet as my favourite.

The colours draw me into the painting, and the sun and it's reflection on the water are hypnotic. I love the waves - they are perfect for this early moring, tranquil scene.

I've included a link and hope it will display the painitng for you.

:) Great question!

The Death Dealer by the late Frank Frazetta. Check with the Ballantine book publishing agency or the Library of Congress' website at: loc.gov and post your question about this author there.

A "favorite" painting is hard to pick. I can give you a couple: Juan de Pareja by Diego Velazquez, and The Noble Slav by Rembrandt. These are two towering, majestic artistic achievements.

Picasso's Guernica -- I see I'm not the only one who answered this way.
For me, it's the perfect use of abstraction in response the the Nazi bombing of Guernica, Spain. It's so powerful, a copy is hanging in the United Nations as a reminder to all the horrors of war.

I think the first painting that really effected me was "morning on the seine at giverny" by monet. I know its impressionist but i love it. Just the light and the color, and for me the image by the river in the pale morning light reminds me of trips to the lil resevoir not far from my home.

I'm not sure I can narrow it down to just one painting. I have a thing for dutch painters because my favorites are Vermeer and Rembrandt.

I love Vermeers use of light. I love his subjects. It looks almost like photographs...a moment in time captured. You see people looking out of the painting and smiling as if they are looking at the photographer. What was going on in that moment they were captured? Every painting of his makes me think about the people in it. I love them all. I really like this one:

The following is a Rembrandt that I love:

My attraction to Rembrandt has a lot to do with his actual life. His story is interesting I think. I've actually been to his house and that was really exciting to me.

Yes...some people think I'm a nerd! :)
