Why would anyone want to? AKC is a legitimate registry that encourages conformation & performance showing & titling of dogs, and CKC was 'invented' to protect puppy mills & bad backyard breeders that got kicked out of AKC for too many reported bad breeding practices!

CKC is notorious for supporting puppy mills and is created only to offer some kind of "registration" for dogs that can't be registered any other way. They don't require anything to register either, like proof a dog is an actual pure breed. The AKC will not permit dogs registered with the Continental Kennel Club to be registered with them at all as they do not wish to support it's questionable practices.

Now if you have a dog that you wish to persue Obedience and/or Agility with, there is a way to get your dog registered with the AKC so that you can perform in these events only (never confirmation) and it requires the dog be spayed/neutered. Basically you submit an application stating what breed you feel you have and why you feel it is full blooded. Then you also need papers from your vet, trainers or other qualified people to back up your assumption. You submit a photo and then if the AKC agrees that it is likely your dog is a pure breed, for a small fee, you can get the paperwork to allow you to participate in AKC sanctioned events as stated above.

The first poster is correct. AKC is def legit. Continental KC will register dogs that are not purebred simply by allowing you to send in a few pix. If your dog is AKC registered , there is no need to be Continental KC registered.

There is the Canadian KC (also CKC) and they are the equivalent to the AKC. I do not know if there is a way to register with both. However, I do know that they recognize each other as being legitimate.

You can't. A dog must come from an AKC registered litter and be sold with a registration paper from the AKC in order to be registered by them. They do accept dogs from the Canadian Kennel Club but not scam registries such as CKC ( Continental Kennel Club, Canine Kennel Club). The CKC you are involved with is NOT a legit registry. It was started by mills and BYB in order to register dogs that are unable to be registered in a legit registry, can't prove they are purebred (most likely aren't), who were sold on limited registration and spay/neuter agreements from the breeder but owner decided to go against the order, whose owners have been suspended from registering dogs with a legit registry etc.
Do not waste your time or money registring a dog with these types of registries, they aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Even though you have a paper with a bunch of dog names and numbers on it form these types of registries your dog really isn't registered and parentage can't be proven.

If you want to compete in performance events in AKC you can as long as your dog is spay/neutered and you send in a copy of the spay/neuter certificate two pictures of your dog that show it very clearly, a completed application with why your dog doesn't have registration papers already and other info (you don't need anything form a vet, trainer or anyone else to say the dog is a particualr breed) and the fee and send it in to AKC once they have reveiwed the application and thoroughly checked the pictures to determine if they feel it is of the breed you listed, they will send you an ILP number. This doesn't mean your dog is registered all it means is that you can compete in AKC sponsored performance events.

You can only register a dog with AKC if the parents are also registered and the litter was registered. If that is the case, why would you register with CKC, if that is the Continential KC. If it is the Canadian KC, you can register them with the AKC if they are Canadian registered.
Which one are you talking about????????

If your dog is CKC registered...as in Continential KC....you CANNOT register it with the AKC unless BOTH parents were and the litter was also. THAT CKC is a fake registry and AKC does not recognize it as anything other than that.

If you are talking about the Canadian Kennel Club, yes AKC has a set procedure for registering the dog in the US, and the program is reciprocal with Canada.
Dogs must be dual registered if they are to be shown/ran in both countries.

If your dog is registered with The Continental Kennel Club, then no, AKC nor any other valid registry will recognize that "puppy mill registry" that will even register your mother if you send in the money.

yes you just need to contact ckc and have them send you the duel registry form but if they're not akc registered then you can't get that done, akc is a snooty dog registry the recognize the least amount of rules and they have very strict rules which in some cases are good but in my opinion they go overboard
