To make a long story short, i had a account with a company for a telephone. I disconnected due to horrible service. This was about 1 1/2 years ago. Well, I have moved to a different city and never ended up paying for the bill because I never received one (thinking that they knew I hated there company because they gave me such horrible service, I got the last month for free) About 3 months ago I got a phone call from a collection agency saying that I owe 215.00!! (the cost was only 50 a month with taxes the total should've been only 65.00 MAX) I told them that they need to send me a bill in the mail before I pay them, well they said that they will continue calling me until I pay them and that they will send a bill to me. I contacted my old landlord and asked him if there was any returned mail and he said no there hasn't been a single thing. This company keeps calling me and telling me that I have to pay but I haven't recieved a bill yet afterr 3 months, what should I do???

I have continually spoke with the company and told them that I haven't recieved anything in the mail. What do you think I should do about recieving a bill cause I can't pay the company directly because it's been forwarded to the credit agency.

Tell them that unless you receive a bill for the CORRECT amount, you will not pay it...futhermore if the calls don't stop, tell them you have talked to an attorney about filing harrassment charges...tell this to a supervisor, not a rep. The only other alternative would be to change your number and go non-published

I cannot say for your personal situation and I don't live in your country..but I do know that if the phone company attempted to send you a bill after you moved away and the bill was returned to them by the next tenants then after a period of time the bill would accrue interest due to non payment. Once the bill got past the three month mark still unpaid they would have handed it off to a debt collector who would then add their own fees and charges to it. My guess is they had to spend time tracking you down to your current address. You can argue it all you want but these ppl are ruthless and ultimately you probably did owe the phone company a smaller amount that has now blown out to a bigger amount. I would simply pay the bill. If you cannot pay it in one lump sum then let them know you will pay it in installments over a period of time and stick to it.
I have walked in your shoes and ultimately know that arguing only drives the bill higher.
If you absolutely, positively have records showing that you owed the phone company nothing when you disconnected from them (no previous month charges etc) then you could take your claim to the small claims tribunal (small claims court??) ..but then it will take time and more money to go that far. If you have no proof that you owed them nothing at the time of disconnection then I do think it is easier to pay it.
Good luck. I hated those debt collector ppl..they show no mercy.

Its called credit disputes. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com and get you a free credit report if you don't already have one. You are entitled to one free one a yr.; unless you are denied credit, a job, etc. Upon receipt of credit report. If it is listed dispute it and note the correct amt. owed. Each credit bureau will investigate your account and after a period of 30-45 days, if they don't prove you owe the full amount, it will be removed. Never pay what you don't owe. You can even get the company name and no. of the collection agency. Tell them to send you a bill at your current address. Upon receiving the bill, the bottom will state that you have 30 days to dispute if you are not in agreement. You can also settle with them to make resolution. It takes work to get it corrected, but it will pay off. Its always good to contact your bank and ask what type of credit alerts they have available and the fees in order for you to get notification if anything is on your credit good or bad. I wish you well.

Report them, and explain the situation just the way you did here, to the Better Business Bureau. You can do that right on the net. The official site only, with logo.

There are rules against them just calling you whenever they feel like it.

Contact the Board of public utilities. If they can not help they may tell you who can.

Finally, you can get them off of youre credit report. There is a fair credit reporting act, and you can report what they did to you.

Maybe freecreditreport.com can help.

Do not pay, until you get in writing. And when they call, ask to speak to a supervisor. And you can contact the collection agency directly, and tell them you will mail in payment, once they can prove you actually owe that balance.

send a cheque to the phone company you had the terrible service with on the memo line write in paid in full if the phone company cashes the cheque then you are off the hook because you paid in full
look up on the internet who you want
and do not tell the credit agency after the cheque is cashed tell them paid in full stop calling
