Well this question has been posed a million times since Tyson first hit the scene.We'll hypothesize and say that they're both in the shape of their life.
First scenario:Tyson connects with a clean right or left hook.Ali's out for the count.He's always taken a good punch but Tyson was an incredible finisher.If you got hurt you were dead.Don't rule out Mike's defensive skills either.He had EXCELLENT head movement and the peekaboo style was very frustrating.
2nd.The fight goes more than 9 rounds because Tyson is getting frustrated by having a jab stuffed in his face all night.Tyson gets busted up the whole fight.Ali wins by decision.
Also,fact is Ali has been hit much harder than in the Thrilla in Manila.Kenny Norton broke his jaw and his rope a dope style had nothing to do with his Parkisons.He had a genetic disposition to that disease and very rarely took hard punches to the head while doing his Rope a Dope.
Even many doctors and experts agree on that point.

i think Ali would beat Tyson because he is a lot more cunning and Tyson depends on power to much -Ali has defeated a lot of power punchers,Tyson hasn't been in the ring with anyone that could box and frustrate you like Ali could ask foreman.

I think Ali in his prime would beat Tyson in his prime because of his footwork.
To Brian: Ali actually says that it wasn't the rope-a-dope, but the Thrilla in Manila fight that damaged him the most.

hard to say friend.ali was so graceful,smart and quick but he was knocked down by ,wepner and frazier,he got off the deck to win or lose by decision.when tyson knocked you down he had killer instinct think about that and on the other hand ali would have had a special plan for tyson..until he got hit..it's a toss up but i'm leaning toward tyson,he was faster than frazier and hit harder too.

IMO, Ali would win. Tyson is a brawler, slow, with a heavy punch.
Ali was light footed, planned his shots, had a fantastic jab and could outbox Tyson any day.
