Yes. Overdosage amplifies the side effects of benadryl (in most countries, that is diphenhydramine HCl). Drowsiness becomes sleepiness. Gastrointestinal or stomach upset becomes gastrointestinal hemorrhage. One may take too much and damage the liver and kidneys. It is not unthinkable that someone goes into coma and possibly death with too much diphenhydramine, an antihistamine with central depressant effects, a downer. In my country, it is not recommended to give more than 400mg for adults in 24 hours or 50mg/kg-body-weight for children in a 24-hour period. It has a high LD50 though (LD50 is the dosage lethal to 50% of the population).

yes but it won't likely kill you....you might sleep for a long time and also experience something unpleasant called urinary retention where you can't pee for hours on end. this happened to me by accident when i took a lot of benadryl and used the cream at the same time. i didn't realize it was like taking the drug but in different forms. BTW I was not trying to overdose....I was attacked by red ants and was extremely itchy and covered in hives so took lots of benadryl and used whole tube of cream as my legs were covered in hives.
