I have been a AKC registered husky breeder for years. We have been so lucky as usually our breedings take place with no help from us, all natural. We have one stud and 3 bitches.

Two months ago, one of our females came into her third heat and we decided we would allow her to remain outdoors with the stud (usually we bring them in if we arent going to allow breeding) This wouldve been her first litter. They had at least 3 ties (those are the ones we witnessed) we thought for sure puppies were on the way.

Two weeks ago, we decided she didnt look pregnant and she wouldve been due very soon so we took her in to be scanned. There was no puppies.

Here is where it gets weird. One of our other girls, an experienced girl is in heat right now, not receptive yet but close. We heard yelping last night we ran out expecting to see them tied, instead he was tied to the same girl from 2 months ago. I dont understand why they would be back together, unless he is confused?
PLEASE HELP

Some call it a "split" heat, some have other names for it. I have had a bit ch that would come in and seem to go through a semi-normal heat, go out, and then come back in again three months down the road. She would USUALLY stand the first time, but never become pregnant. She would always stand the second time and did concieve. She had one litter and then was spayed. I was not keen on the whole thing and didn't desire to replicate that in her daughters.
I gotta say though, I am not comfortable with the whole unsupervised breeding program you have there. For safety reasons, all breedings should be supervised. Letting a bit ch in heat be just "turned out" with the male is bad enough, but to also have other dogs free with them.....that is asking for trouble. Here is the poor maiden bit ch and it may have been a distressing thing for her!! And I know more that one person that bred this way and had a male tie with a female and the other female attacked and almost ripped to shreds the tied female!!!!!!!!!!

Not a good breeding practice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would definitely take the female to the vet, that is very weird. The male can not get confused because the female will not let the male near her unless she is receptive. The male will also have trouble penetrating if she is not ready.

Place him alone with the one in heat. He's a MALE dog. He will jump anything that will let him and I don't mean that in a sexist way. If you isolate them then you will have better success of gaining puppies.

Don't rack your brain over it just let them do their stuff and see what happens. We are breeding Golden retreivers, believe me they know what they are doing- sometimes they are not very fertile when they are only on their 3rd period. Also they don't just get "tied" when the girls in heat, they like doing it other times too. I am sure he will get around to the other girl- she has just got to wait her turn! GOOD LUCK
