Social Norms at work. Cracker is kind of funny, honkey is funny too, but N*GGER will never be funny, unless spoken by a black man.

BOOK CRITICAL OF AFRICAN AMERICANS WHO USE THE N-WORD
Los Angeles, CA., Author H. Lewis Smith has written a thought provoking, culturally divided book that will not only spark heated conversation, but can also bring about real change. The N-word is often used in the African American community amongst each other and is generally not a problem when spoken by another African American. However, once the word is used by a Caucasian person, it brings on other effects. The question is "who can use the word and why?" Smith believes it is a word that should be BURIED!!!!
The book is written in a manner that all can understand. The points are well-taken and the wording is easy to follow. There are quotes from great people in our history including Martin Luther King, Jr., Harriet Tubman, James Baldwin and many, many others. Smith has mixed history with honesty, love with life, education with effects. This is a great book for educators, parents, managers, professionals, newsmen, and anyone else wanting an in-depth look at the N-word, the effects and the solutions. A MUST READ!!!!
H. Lewis Smith has studied the idioms, meanings and the psychological impact of words, its energy and vibratory effects on the human mind for more than two decades. He has been a guest on several talk shows, The Power, The Exchange, Andrea Williams’ Jamin 98.3 and many more. To learn more about Bury that Sucka, please visit http://www.burythatsucka.com

It is never okay to call any other person by a derogatory word.
However, I must say the reason it is "okay" in U.S. culture for blacks to use "honkie" and not "okay" for whites to use the n-word has a lot to do with the history of blacks. The n-word is used to say: You are less than human, you are subhuman because your skin color is dark and your hair is a different texture.
However, in my experience, honkie is always used in a futile attempt to get back at a white person for calling you the n-word. Sometimes, I've even seen honkie used in an endearing way. I've never met another black person that actually feels that whites are subhuman due to their skin color and hair texture. We generally don't think in those terms.
But the bottomline is: It is NEVER okay to use derogatory names towards another being for something as basic and uncontrollable as "race."

It is not ok, it is the way the person takes it. Maybe some white don't mind being called such words. Black people are more serious of what they are called because of their history probably. White people have always (in history) thought that they were superior, but colored people (in history) have been treated horrible. This still goes on. This is probably why colored people get more offended that white people. I am Puerto rican but I don't have the color. Still, everyday in school a stupid white person (always white don't know why) says something about me speaking spanish with my friend. I got black friends since white people have a problem with me being Hispanic. It's probably in the history and what has been taught to the person. White people do not have a huge history of being victims of prejudice, colored people have a huge history on this. I understand why colored people get offended and white people don't, but I do know white people that get very offended with such words.

Because it is racist if a white person calls a black person a derogatory word, however it is okay if a black person calls a white person a derogatory word. At least, that is the way society sees it. I think it is wrong for any person to call anyone else a derogatory word.

If you were to make a checklist putting on one side the derogatory names that black people call white people and on the other side the derogatory names white people call black people you will find that the white side far exceeds the black side. Racists people of both sides have been calling each other nasty names for eons but I do believe that the racist whites have dibs on name calling for blacks.

It's is called reverse prejudice and is very common. White people are taught to respect black people due to racism and all that the race has endured. However, the opposite is not true. Blacks are not taught to respect whites, in fact I believe they are taught that we are the enemy of sorts.

i don't like any of it.
it is stupid and childish.
the slavery days have long been gone and i wasn't around back in those days anyway. so why have i been called racist slurs?
it wasn't my fault. and if u think about it.....my ancestors came over here in a "big boat" too. i can't do anything about that. can i?
can't we all just move on and live in peace with one another?
