You are on very dangerous ground. Mormonism is a dangerous non-christian cult.
The Truth About Mormonism
Most LDS (This stands for Latter Day Saint, That's what they like to call themselves) won't tell you what the Church believes because it is so bizarre. These strange beliefs are the reason mainline Christians Churches say that Mormonism is a non-christian cult. In the next paragraph I will tell you what they believe and add what the Bible teaches on the subject where appropriate.
Mormons teach that our god is a glorified man. A being of flesh and bone. The Bible makes it very clear that God is spirit. The Mormon god stated out in the great expanse of uncreated space. There in the darkness of a pre-spiritual existence, god the father, Jesus, you, and I will there all equal and co-eternal. Then a god had sexual intercourse with one of his wives and our god was given a spiritual body. He happened to be the first born of this god so he became the savior of this god's world just like Jesus is for our world. He lived, and taught Mormonism to those who would listen to mine. He died just like Jesus did here and if others on that world would repent and be baptized by the Mormon priest there and live to the end of their lives in righteousness they were allow to return to their god. If they didn't measure up they were assigned to other kingdoms that that god has created for them. Kingdoms overseen by their savior (who became our god) and another valiant spirit that was given the office of holy ghost. (What do you think, is this getting complex?) After the end of the world that our god did his mortal ministry on, he was given many worthy females at he could have sex with and thereby create spirit children (us) to send to a world that he created. Oh, by the way these worlds weren't really created they were organized out of the matter available in space (matter is co-eternal with god and can't be created or destroyed). Jesus was the first born of our god and Lucifer the second born (who became the devil). Can you believe this Mormons don't just say that Jesus is our spiritual brother but also he and we are brothers of Satan. Lucifer wanted to force us all to be good and bring us all back to god Jesus wanted to give us freedom to make our own decision. Jesus won this battle and became god the son. Well Mormons believe this process is repeated again and again. It is their goal to live a perfect life through their first principles of their gospel they are:
1. Faith in the Mormon Jesus
2. Baptism by immersion (Done only by their priests)
3. Laying on of hands for the gift of the Mormon Holy Ghost ( Done only by their elders)
4. Repentance ( You have to repent of every sin you commit, You better have a good memory)
5. Enduring to the end of your life in righteousness. Go to step 4 each time to you sin.
Along with this there is marriage in the Mormon temple (You can't become a god without being married). Everyone is also asked to pay a full tithe (Ok they got one thing right) and do volunteer service for the church (They have no paid ministry. That isn't bad either but someone should tell them that pastoring a local christian church is a full time and a half job and it doesn't pay well at all. Men and women that do it are called of God No one would go into that kind of work on their own..

You chose to have a boyfriend that is mormon, & you know nothing about Mormonism ?
Mormons believe that they all shall one day become a God / Goddess, in the next life, if they willingly and joyfully obey all the teachings of their Prophet Joseph Smith (the founder of the Mormonism, the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints). All the teachings of Joseph Smith are found in the Book of Mormon, Doctrines and Covenants and The Pearl of Great Price, which were all written by Joseph Smith.
You might want to ask Your Boyfriend yourself as well, what his church and faith teaches. And ask him about there doctrine of, becoming God.
For God the Father, the God of the Universe, was first a man, then through obedience, became A God - - The God of our World, planet earth. Many Mormon men someday will be a God, of there own world as well some day. All this quite seriously taught by the Mormon Church.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, aka Mormons. First, please use some common sense while reading some of the absurd replies to your questions. There are many mis-informed people on this forum.
I would recommend that you take a look at www.mormon.org. It tells about many of our basic beliefs. Basically, we believe in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. We believe in prophets, apostles and revelation from God. We believe all of God's scriptures and study them regularly. We try to keep the commandments and live good decent lives. We do not drink, smoke, use drugs, etc.
As far as what your boyfriend can/can't do, I suggest you read a bit from the following pamphlet called for the strength of youth. It outlines some of the moral values that we are taught and expected to live. Also, this way you will know exactly what is expected and not from what someone thinks we believe.

Good luck.

You dont know anything about them?
You need to know that there is a large difference between them and the historic Christian church in terms of the nature of God, salvation and a whole long list of key doctrines.
If you want to know more, go to the mrm.org web site or bcmmin.org web site. John Farkas (at the second site) has a narrated powerpoint show that explains the basic differences between Christianity and Mormonism. It is good for a start.

Good grief, some people have serious opinions about us! First of all, props to you for wanting to know more. Just be careful who you take advice from. Think about all the Mormon's you know...are they bad people? I doubt it. You can judge a lot about a person based on their character, and I'm sure you'd say the character of most LDS people you know is honorable (shoot, you're dating one, that says something about your good taste).
Anything you want to know about our religion can be found on our Church's official webpage www.lds.org. Trust me, we have no secrets about what we believe. Do a thorough search of that site and you can find out anything you may want to know. I should note that this is the ONE AND ONLY site sanctioned by our Church. Any other website you get information from will be biased, either in our favor or against.
I hope it's enlightening, and may you not be swayed by the horribly prejudiced things said against us here.

Mormonism Officially known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (often abbreviated as LDS), Mormonism was founded in 1830 by the American prophet Joseph Smith. Smith claimed to have discovered a buried sacred text called The Book of Mormon near Palmyra, New York. Mormons regard The Book of Mormon, as well as two other sacred texts revealed by Smith, as having equal authority to that of the Bible. Like other Christian denominations, Mormons emphasize salvation through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. But Mormons also have teachings and practices that distinguish them from most Christians. For example, believers may perform vicarious baptism for the dead, and marriages may be contracted "for eternity," that is, they are believed to be binding even after death. Polygamy was practiced in the nineteenth century but was repudiated in 1890. The main Mormon denomination is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. Current membership is around 10 million, half in the U.S.

There is one important thing that is essential for you to know about Mormonism: the difference between the Mormon's Jesus and the Jesus of Christianity.
Mormons believe that Jesus opened the door for us to be saved. However, in order to be saved, you have to live a worthy life--and walk through the door yourself. Therefore, Mormons believe you are saved by works--and after you do everything in your power to be righteous, that's when Jesus' grace kicks in.
Christians believe that there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. It's through our faith in Jesus that we're saved. As Romans 3:20-end says, we're saved by grace alone, but our faith in Jesus convicts us to follow the law.
This may seem like a small difference between Mormons and Christians, but it's HUGE!! Therefore, even though Mormons call themselves Christian (and say they have to be since their church has His name in it and since they have the BOM.."another testament of Christ"...then they have to be Christian). HOWEVER, when you get to the HEART of who Jesus Christ is, Mormons are not Christians--at least Christians in the common use of the term-- They believe in a Jesus, but he's definitely not the same Jesus Christ as mainstream Christianity.

Why don't you just ask him? It might please him that you want to know about his faith. Plus, I think it would be a good conversation between you two.
Take care!
