NO IT WONT DISSOLVE IN COKE

No, a tooth outside the mouth will not dissolve in Coca Cola. Neither will a tooth inside the mouth. Coca Cola will not dissolve teeth. It will, however, promote tooth decay, Mainly because of the sugar in this beverage. Cavities, the result of tooth decay, almost never destroy the whole tooth. So, the tooth would not be "dissolved" even if one held Coca Cola in ones mouth for an extended period of time. As kids we had heard that Coca Cola would dissolve iron nails. So we put a nail in a bottle of Coke for several days, with no effect.

Acidic solutions promote solution formation (dissolving). But, Coke is just not that acidic. Strictly speaking tooth decay is not dissolving, as it is a complex bio-chemical process. So in a word: NO.

A friend who taught science for years says she used to do a demo with a glass of milk, a glass of cola, and a glass of orange juice. She'd drop a real tooth into each glass. Of course, the tooth in the milk never dissolved or was damaged in any way. The other two did dissolve, but the one in the orange juice dissolved a whole lot faster than the one in the cola.

This doesn't mean cola and orange juice aren't safe for you to drink. If you're worried about it, drink about a half a glass of water after drinking cola or orange juice. That'll do it. If you're really panicked, go brush your teeth afterwards, too.

* Coca-Cola will not dissolve a tooth (or a nail, or a penny, or a piece of meat) overnight.
* Coca-Cola contains acids (such as citric acid and phosphoric acid) which will eventually dissolve items such as teeth (given enough time), but so do plenty of other substances we commonly ingest (such as orange juice). The concentration of acid in these products is so low that our digestive systems are easily capable of coping with it with no harm to us.
* The idea that any substance which can dissolve teeth must therefore damage our teeth if we drink it is nonsensical. We don't hold drinks in our mouths for days at a time — any liquids we drink simply wash over our teeth very briefly, and our teeth are further protected by their enamel coating and the ameliorating effects of saliva.

Yes. A kid in my son's school did a Science Fair project on this using his baby teeth. The tooth dissolved in Coke, Diet Coke, and a little even in Grape Juice.
