I'd suggest you go to Puppylinux.com they have a very small linux distro that is made to co-exist with XP. I run Puppy 2.10 myself and got ride of everything from Microsoft. Puppy comes with things that MS makes you pay extra for.

in case you have homestead windows XP pre service %. a million, you're able to desire to run into some problems getting homestead windows xp to correctly known the full 3 hundred gigabyte disk, the appropriate answer to that's to create a smaller partition on the disk for the os, so which you are able to do besides, say 10 or 15 gigabytes, then as quickly as you effectively deploy xp, and improve it to service %. 2, you should get get right of entry to to the the remainder of the disk, if all is going properly. even confirm that the sata 3 hundred gigabyte force is sweet set in th bios, and that the bios is sweet figuring out the 300 gig sata force, and which you have it properly configured, not raid, yet customary. specially circumstances you should pass into the easily sata bios, that's specially circumstances become self sustaining from the main significant bios, relies upon on the mobo, and configure it in a not very intuitive way, in with gigabyte mobos you should first set in the main significant bios 'sata raid lively', then in the sata bios, you should set it to non-raid. Asus could be distinctive, i don't comprehend. as quickly as you're particular that the bios is definitely properly configured, you are able to go forward with installation xp back. however the 300 gig force could be inflicting you problems. even though, in case you are able to examine and write to it from the different os, that's probably not the issue. Because of it's size (aprox. 60-70 Mb) this distro will run perfectly from a USB pen drive, as guest OS (running inside windows) or on a separate HDD partition.

Instaling DSL on a pen drive is a bit tricky. DSL is offering a preinstalled USB pen drive (which you can use both for installing DSL and running it from windows platform).

You would need to reformat your disk using FAT, or repartition it into an NTFS partition for XP, and a FAT partition for Linux.
