Because it's now accepted that witches aren't real.

The people who used to accuse women of being witches are now considered to be stupid by everyone.

answer: It was an INTENTIONAL mistranslation when the bible was translated for King James. Hg: you're mistaken and should learn some history. King James had a particular fear of witches and told his translators to find anywhere in the bible where it might be4 translated to speak against witchcraft. The particular verse originally read: "Thou shall not suffer a poisoner to live" - a sentiment most would agree with throughout the ages. The translators changed it. Also changing seer to witch in the story of whom King Saul went and consulted, etc. Historical fact.

We do die because of not keeping the law now. The messiah came to fulfill the law not change it. ANd if you christians believe that you are not under the law you are mistaken. If that is so why do you still tithe in the christian church and why were the apostles still keeping the law even after the death of the messiah?... Anyway, the reason witches and so forth are allowed to live is because everyone these days live under thier own law and not the laws established by the Most High in what ya'll erroneously call the old testament. They will live physically in this world but they will die the second death where the Most High will place them in the lake of fire to be tortured day and night on the day of judgement.

Maybe because people have come to their senses and realized that witches do not harm people. They worship nature and don't pinch, poke, bite, or harm people. Or turn them into toads. And besides, I've never heard of a time when people actually DID burn witches (At least women who they CLAIMED were witches). They were usually
A Drowned
B Stoned to death
C Hung.

Besides, it's probably ILLEGAL to burn people at the stake nowadays. That's murder, and you could be put on death row for that.

I no language expert, but I believe that a more literal translation from the original Hebrew is something along the lines of "sorcerer". I have read that the original Hebrew word carried the idea that this was a person using magic/occult means TO HARM OTHERS, not just someone who uses magic or occult methods in everyday life.

Because most countries don't have their civil codes based on Old Testament law.

BTW, even in ancient Isreal, witches were not burned to death; they were stoned (hit with rocks until death). Public immolation wasn't practiced in Isreal. Persia, yes.

because common sense overcame ignorance and stupidity, making witch burnings illegal--I'm sure it still happens, but not often

Actually, it didn't say that originally. King James (of England) changed that in his version of the bible because he was terrified of them, and thought that they made poisonous potions to kill people. It used to say poisoners, which is understandable because that's a form of murder and the bible condemns murder.
